don't you love how they consider that a "gotcha" question, when he was going on and on about how much he loves the bible? and note Palin saying they wouldn't ask Hilary that. . . except they HAVE asked her that, and she answered! How about: Timothy 2:12 or Psalm 137 Or Peter 2:18: The verse you quote from Timothy is taken out of context and most likely refer to a particular group of women within the church who were usurping authority through illegitimate means. The word that some translate as "authority" is Authentein (translated as "domineer" in the Latin Vulgate) and it is only used in this one particular passage in the entirety of scripture; in other epistles, Paul uses the word Exousia to refer to authority, which gives credence to the belief that this passage was not in reference to women having any authority but rather to those who would gain it through less than scrupulous means. There is also the fact that Paul switches from the plural "women" to the singular "woman" throughout 1 Timothy 2, indicating it may have been a particular individual he took exception to, rather than all women in the church. Lastly, some scholars believe "I do not permit" should more accurately be translated as "I do not currently permit", further showing that this is not a command for the Church going forward but rather more focused on this particular situation in this particular church. As for the verse from I Peter 2, the word oiketai is often translated as "servants", not "slaves". In ancient times, those who were called oiketai were employed by a household as domestics and were counted as members of the household. These were not individuals who were bought and sold but rather who had hired themselves out to work for a wealthy landowner in order to provide for his family; these were positions that had prestige associated with them as being part of the staff of the household. Regarding the verse from Psalms, you got me. That's some pretty crazy stuff. |

Also, I'm hoping Bernie wins the nomination and I'll be donating to his campaign There is ZERO chance Sanders will get the Nom. Zero, nada, zilch. he's a self-proclaimed Socialist. . something that will get him ripped to shreds, once the media give up on the Hilary emails non-scandal (they were classified well after the fact). he can not win in a General election, so there's no way he will get the Nom. I actually put money on McCain but regretted it as soon as I heard Palin speak for the first time. That's not to say that I think Bernie will get the Nom, but I'm pulling for it anyway. Without any debates it's impossible to tell if he'll continue with his upward momentum or if Clinton's momentum will continue to slow so I don't know. It's a hail mary but possible. If he does get the nomination though, I don't see any possibility of him losing to the GOP no matter who they nominate. To me this presidential election is taking place in the Democratic primaries. The Republican campaign is simply a formality. This is Clinton VS Sanders. |

To me this presidential election is taking place in the Democratic primaries. The Republican campaign is simply a formality. This is Clinton VS Sanders. It would be an interesting election if it does end up as Sanders v Trump; someone the right (and right of centre?) won't vote for because they think he's a communist v someone the left and centre won't vote for because they think he's a buffoon. |

Ah, I was right, it was "sanity". Depressingly, there's a significant chunk of the right who wouldn't regard the combination of devil-worshipping / Muslim / athiest as an oxymoron. Or know what an oxymoron was, for that matter. One of the few saving graces of the lunatic right over here is that the vast majority tend to be financial and social conservatives without the religious and/or anti-science element that's so prominent in US politics. Of course, we have a real lunatic left as well. |
