I was reading somewhere today that in a conference call, it was mentioned by Disney CEO Bob Iger (who, I'm pretty sure, is related to Jerry Iger, Will Eisner's partner back in the early Golden Age) that Disney is possibly considering a Marvel channel as well as a Star Wars channel.
This doesn't surprise me in the least and I could easily see it happening.
The demand is there for both properties and there's enough back log of both franchises, between vintage, tv, movies, cartoons, and newer shows developed specifically for each, that they'd not only be feasible, but probably pretty profitable too.

I'm pretty sure my wife would be on board for both. However, I Think they would likely wait to see if they could get the Netflix content for the Marvel channel before they launched, whether rerun rights or taking the original programming back after the deal with Netflix runs out.
I wouldn't be surprised though if they considered each as a streaming service rather than a cable/broadcast channel as the cable market is shrinking and sub based streaming services are growing.

They may have farther to go... You're assuming Disney has distribution rights to all of those and they aren't held by previous distributors and/or license holders. The Netflix shows for example are exclusive to Netflix, they can't be shown on other channels until that exclusive clause expires. Fox may have rights to the X-Men and FF stuff, Sony to Spider-Man, etc. The 70s stuff may belong to production companies, etc. F/X paid Marvel a lot of money for exclusive broadcast right sto a lot of the Marvel cinematic movies, which is why they are in heavy rotation on F/X, Spike had exclusive broadcast rights on the Star Wars movies for a while (not sure if that still stands) Yes, the material is there, but Disney may not have the rights to air it without reaching agreements of paying substantial sums to use it... -M

I love the idea, but they'd need some serious content. You can't base a network on the existing Marvel stuff... they're run through it all in a month. Star Wars more like a week. I think it more likely they re-name Disney XD and pretty much leave it as is.

Even without that, though, that's clearly a lot of material, if Marvel could get the rights to all of it.

It's really not that much.. what is it... 300 hours? 500? 500 hours is just over 2 weeks worth... call it 4 if you don't care what's on late night/early morning. That's not really a network. That'd need at least a 1/2 dozen new shows to anchor it.
And that's assuming they could get it all... which they might not. The old cartoons are probably no probably, but I'm sure they have the movies licensed out for at least a little while. The Stan Lee shows probably belong to Sci-Fi (which I THINK is in the ABC/Disney family, but I'm not 100% sure how taht works).
The netflix stuff I'm sure has to be on netflix first... and probably at least for a while... if they were truly planning this, they would have held that stuff for the new network, I'd think.
