So, what do you guys think? I don't read the main Batbooks (only Batman and Robin and Batgirl)... does it make sense at all? It it a attempt to tie into Gotham? Or somewhere in between? More importantly, should I be reading it?

I dug the early Snyder Batman work (on Detective pre-Flashpoint and his early new52Batstuff), but I felt he stumbled in Death of the Family and entered wtf territory with Zero Year, and this to me seems to be a result of a writer who has lost his way with a property and is trying desperately to do something different to extend his time on the title. I am a volume behind on Batman, as I trade wait it and read from the library, but I strongly disliked the Zero Year stuff and was in doubt if I was going to read any more, early looks at the Joker story that followed Zero Year made me less inclined to give it another chance, and Bat-Chappie kind of seals the deal for me.
I much prefer Snyder on horror stuff like Severed, the Wake and Wytches. It's his strong suit. -M

I'd have to read it to know, and I'm not getting Batman currently.

Robo-Gordon just seems like a weird concept, and not very original but I didn't mind him in the Detective Comics sneak peak though that may have more to do with Bullock than anything else.

Focusing on Bullock could also be a TV tie-in.
Zero Year had no appeal to me, and all I know about Endgame is the Batgirl tie in was a complete waste... sounds like I didn't miss much.
I was sorta planning on getting Eternal, but I'm really sad about Terry McGinnis, so I may not.

Other than the ending, which Snyder always seems to fail at, Eternal was a load of fun; especially the early issues which had a more anthology title feel to them. Also of note with Robo-Jim, he was pretty fun in the Batman/Superman free preview. I don't know why Superman would be labeled a criminal, though perhaps it means that since the title of "Batman" is totally in line with the authorities then all vigilantes are criminals, but any way you slice it you get a very different look at the relationship between Batman and Superman. So far it seems that although I'm not very interested in the main book, the other titles look good to me.

I haven't read all the tie-ins to Zero Year, but the actual two Batman arcs I thought were pretty decent especially if you can get with this is a 'new' Batman and previous stories are not tied in. It very much seemed to be more based on the 'movie' Batman than any other Batman. The Court of Owls story line that started the New 52 I thought was pretty dumb, but I thought Snyder/Jock's run was pretty good before the reboot. Death of the Family was pretty decent too, turning a Joker story more into a horror story line.
That said, I don't think the Batman series really fit together much at all, but this reboot while Morrison's run was still playing out and keeping all of the Robins etc. is pretty hard to make it all fit.

I actually think that, if anything, Snyder is taking more cues from Dan Slott's run on Superior Spider Man than he is from anything on TV. I'm pretty sure in at least one or two interviews, he mentions that Superior had some influence on the story. As far as as corporate synergy, Snyder always struck me as one of the writers that was pretty much allowed to do what he wanted without being forced to tie into other things going on DC. If anything, it was other writers that were forced to conform their stories around things he was writing in Batman. So I very much doubt that the TV show is precipitating the change.

It's actually been pretty decent so far, I didn't think I'd like it when it was announced but the writing is good. I don't know where the story is going, but I'll keep reading.

Maybe I'll check out the trade... I haven't loved Snyder's stuff I've read so far, but I am intrigued... especially after what happened in Batgirl.

The Batgirl issue with Jim in it was really good, and Detective has been fantastic and I tried out Batman and Superman as well and it looks like it's going to be interesting. We've only had one issue of Batman so far and it was mostly exposition so the jury's still out on that but as a concept itself seems to be working which I was very skeptical about in the beginning.
