Nov 2006, I was a few months away from taking a 5-6 year hiatus from new comics, and I wasn't getting much. What I did get included...
Capt. America 24-Bru's Cap was almost last man standing for mainstream super-hero books for me.
Conan 34
Conan Songs of the Dead 5
Criminal 2-Bru again, big surprise
Dr. Strange: The OAth-who can say no to Marcos Martin on the good Doctor, and I liked BKV's take on the character.
Immortal Iron Fist 1 hey what do you know, Brubaker again....
Jack Staff 12-I was getting into Grist's stuff but I lost touch with the hiatus, I need to track it down again at some point
Star Wars Legacy 6-Ostrander and Duursema doing their thing and it was good
White Tiger 1-my wife is a big Tamora Pierce fan so picked this up for her...
I was following Fables and Y the Last Man in trade too, so likely picked up the Y the Last Man volume that came out this month too.

I was following Fables and Y the Last Man in trade too, so likely picked up the Y the Last Man volume that came out this month too. -M Go to meet Tamora Pierce, a few years after this, while I was working for B&N, at a signing at our local library (we were asked to sell books that the fans could get signed, if they wanted). She was a real fan of 70s Marvel, especially Don McGregor and Doug Moench, and loved Misty Knight, as a character. She had two speaking engagements, so my co-worker and I got to talk to her for a while between the two sessions and the subject of the White tiger mini-series came up. Unfortunately, it was a really bad experience and soured her on working for Marvel. One of her big issues was how the artist had drawn a scene, with a villain straddling the heroine, in what could be seen as a near-rape pose. Pierce objected to it and asked for the positioning to be changed to change the connotation and the editor refused to even acknowledge there was a problem. There were enough other problems that she swore off working for them again. Marvel and the juvenile attitudes of the editor really blew it. She could have done an awesome Daughters of the Dragon book. She was a lot of fun, as a speaker. In the first session, she was very halting and nervous and monotone, interrupting with coughs; until, suddenly, she started speaking more confidently and dynamically. It was like Willy Wonka, where Wonka first comes out and hobbles along, until his cane is stuck, does a forward somersault and springs to his feet. She played the crowd beautifully and got a round of applause. We complimented her on it, afterward, and she said she had another trick and did it for the second session. She had a scarf around her neck and just over-emphasized everything, playing up the "artiste," acting like everything was "woooonderful." The, she dropped the persona and talked like a normal person. She is a fun lady and a heck of a writer.

October 2006: Desolation Jones #7 Godland #13 Seven Soldiers #1November 2006: Fell #6 Godland #14 Shanna, the She-Devil TPBSS - end of probably my favourite mainstream series of the last many years Fell and DJ - two worthy Warren Ellis projects, I thought DJ was the superior book, but lovely artwork from Templesmith in Fell Shanna - a slight disappointment; I liked the new concept and origin for Shanna and the artwork was good, but the story went nowhere and the colouring was a bit too bland.

Exactly
Recently his solo series had some buzz; probably the best performer of the most recent Wildstorm characters
