There's nothing that quite spurs introspection like visiting a dating website. I was on one earlier today and happened across a woman who had the screen name Leetah, who is one of the main characters in Elfquest. Of course I had to send her a message, but I also had to sadly inform her that I'm not really a Cutter type of guy, as I much more strongly identify with Skywise. Later on, as I was filling out my own profile, I found myself saying that while I always thought I would grow up to be Han Solo, I'm actually much more like Chewbacca. It got me thinking: Which characters do you guys most closely identify with? Which is different from which characters you like. There are lots of characters that I absolutely love but that I don't really identify with. I mean, Warlord, Jonah Hex, and Oliver Queen are three of my favorite characters of all time, but I don't really identify with them. On the other hand, there's certainly a venn diagram where the two categories overlap. Besides Skywise and Chewbacca, I very strongly identify with Jughead, who is also one of my favorite characters in fiction. To a lesser degree, I also identify some with Steve Rogers. And way back in the day when I was a New Mutants fan, I identified with Doug Ramsey, right up until they killed him off. That's kind of a weird list, but I think somewhere in that mix of Skywise, Chewbacca, Jughead, and Captain America is a pretty damn accurate portrait of who I am. So who is on your list?

Dark justice types like Punisher.
He would shoot a rapist's brains out.
And I'd buy him a coffee after.

Hmm I generally find myself relating to characters who are nonchalant/passive natured or underdogs who rise to the occasion:
Havok Johnny Thunder Polar Boy Star Boy

I probably relate to Marv more than any character. Dark justice types like Punisher. He would shoot a rapist's brains out. And I'd buy him a coffee after. Ooh I like you.

For obvious reasons, I tend to identify most with characters like The Thing, Nightcrawler and Metamorpho, warm-hearted wisecrackers trapped in monstrous bodies. Conversely, I don't particularly relate to actual wheelchair users like Professor X or the Doom Patrol's Chief (Metron, on the other hand...).

I tend to identify with the super-hero types that stop to wave to the people on the train as they pass by.

Actually, I'm a mixture of 4 characters - 2 from DC Comics and 2 from Marvel Comics. First of all, I had to overcome lots of disability in my younger days and I can relate to Doctor Mid-Nite and Daredevil because they are the most promiment heroes that overcame with their inability to see; in my case my inability to hear. That's why I like to read Daredevil when I was a kid; and having said that I can relate to Matthew Murdock because he overcame great hurdles in his youth and an adult practicing law wherever he goes. I consider Thor a character with a some degree of naivete and can be easily tricked by his half-brother Loki and having said that I didn't make good decisions in my youth, adult, and so forth. But, I took a long path/road to get me out of this problem and I can see myself a little bit of Thor to a lesser degree. 3 down and 1 to go; 2 Marvels and 1 DC Comics characters covered. Last and not least, I see myself having great willpower, creativity, and know how. I'm deaf/hard of hearing and I had to have great willpower to overcome many obstacles in my life and I can relate very closely to Green Lantern. His Power Ring and his willingness to use it with great confidence is one of many reasons I loved the early days of Green (Silver Age) Lantern stories. To me, his personality and his creativity more or less is exactly what I am today. If I were to take any of these heroes - I rather be Green Lantern over Thor anyday of the week. And, in spirit ... I'm Green Lantern! Green Lantern - Hal Jordan 1st Daredevil - Matthew Murdock (tied for 2nd) with Doctor Mid-Nite Doctor Mid-Nite - Charles McNider (tied of 2nd) with Daredevil Distant 3rd - The Mighty Thor - Dr. Donald Blake

I don't identify with much in the way of comic book heroes. Maybe Wes Dodds in Sandman Mystery Theatre. Not the greatest physical speciman, but driven by a need for justice, while preferring intellectual pursuits.
I tend to identify with the soiled white knight. Philip Marlowe springs to mind.
Aspirationally, Atticus Finch is always my goal.

Ms Marvel and other super hero fans for the obvious reason several Doctor Who companions, which is after all largely their point. Barclay from Star Trek Drew Carey in The Drew Carey Show The protagonist of Camus "The Stranger" by the very end of the book sarcastic/sardonic/chill characters like Howard the Duck, She-Hulk, Wally West, Kyle Rayner... Ollie Queen politically fellow atheist Mr Terrific 2 ("Yeah, I've fought demons and gods side-by-side with angels and other gods...what's your point?") ...and I'm adopted and my mother's maiden name is Clark...just sayin'... I'm sure I'm forgetting a bunch.

I'd have to say, if I'm being perfectly honest, that I most closely identify with isolated types with very few, if any, genuine friends, that aren't bothered by solitude. So I'd say Doctor Strange (sans the mastery of the mystic arts), Greg House (sans the medical brilliance) and Sherlock Holmes (sans the deductive/inductive brilliance) comes fairly close to the mark. All these guys are "bookish" as opposed to the stereotypical, outdoorsy, hermits and prospectors you typically see in westerns. I will say that I have better shoulders than any of those three and could probably take Greg House in a fight. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but there it is.
