Ya know, apart from it being the reunion of one heck of a creative team, I'm starting to wonder if the return of the back issue market will place a premium on kickstarter thank-yous. Imagine if Watchmen had begun as a kickstarter and someone had the original thank-you gift for having been a $50 sponsor.

I'm sure some people sponsor such things on that hope... much like there's now a crazy after-market for SDCC exclusives.

Well, if it generates more financial support for such projects, such speculation should be encouraged. For once, overly speculative investors have the potential to help diversify the industry instead of driving it to stale, generic drivel  |

The steep premiums for being a contributor on the few promising looking projects seals the deal for me. But I did miss out on TOME for a great price by not checking in on Kickstarter related threads on old CBR. And that looked like a cool book that actually gave contributors a discount for pledging funds up front |

Anyone who enjoyed their work on THE SPECTRE, MARTIAN MANHUNTER, FIRESTORM, GRIMJACK, et al, should definitely check this out. There are only 9 more days to go and at this point they are 61% funded. The thing that appeals to me about this project, besides the fact that they are a great creative team, is seeing them unleashed as it were on a project they obviously have put their hearts and souls into (not literally. I think.). Mandrake has always reminded me of Gene Colan from his days on TOMB OF DRACULA, although he's definitely influenced by the old EERIE and CREEPY comics from the '50s. Mandrake has also donated some of his own original art from SPECTRE, MARTIAN MANHUNTER and BATMAN to the effort. And, for aspiring writers out there, there are personal lessons via Skype from John Ostrander on writing.

I love these two creators and The Spectre is high on my list of all-time favorite runs. This is my first Kickstarter. Good to see you here, Puffenstuff. |
