When I first heard about that Sugar & Spike mini, I was horrified, since I don't think DC has anyone who could match Sheldon Meyer's classic series. So I'm kinda glad that they aren't going to try. On the other hand, adult detectives? In the superhero universe? Written by Keith Giffen? Is there a way I can order a negative number of copies of this book? Seriously, does anybody think this is a good idea?

I see they are going with cutting edge creators to capture the growing youth market.

I'll probably check out Firestorm but none of the others interest me enough to commit to them at this point.

I'm not so sure about using all the old guys, but I fully approve of giving characters a six issue mini to see if they can support a monthly, rather than tossing a monthly out there and cancelling after 7 or 8 issues.

I'm kind of interested in a Metamorpho mini-series if it's done correctly and in good taste.

I'd like to see these as ways for new writers to experiment but it's fun seeing the nearly late greats too.

Tried and true writers on cool b & c list characters. I can't afford to add any new singles, but may pick a few of these up in trade.

Seriously, does anybody think this is a good idea? Business people at Warner who want to make sure the copyright is renewed, I suspect. Two years ago, I met Gerry Conway, and he told me that Firestorm was the character he'd always been most passionate about and wanted to see succeed better than it had. So I'm somewhat interested in reading him on the series again, but not sure I'm interested enough to shell out $4 per issue.

With the dearth of team-up books, minis are now trade-mark protection devices.
