Having seen a well done preview of a current issue and having noticed that the first trade was both unavailable at Amazon and going for stiff prices on ebay, I found a cheap copy thanks to abebooks... and wow, I am really impressed with Afterlife with Archie.
Just as with Life with Archie, the long established characters need no introduction and that allows us to care about what happens right from the start. The plot is both straightforward and intelligent, and the use of Sabrina as the starting element of the zombie apocalypse was very clever. Writer robert Aguirre- Sacasa knows how to write horror, and I'm not talking about the zombies here... one of the characters has done something terrible, and his guilt is awesomely presented.
Three cheers for Dilton Doiley, too, who unlike the characters from the Walking Dead on TV knows exactly what a zombie apocalypse looks like!
I don't know how long this title will run; probably no longer than a year (comic-book time), but I intend to keep reading it (and grabbing the Sabrina horror comic as well, thanks to its great Rosemary's baby vibe).
As a publisher, Archie has had a lot of good ideas over the last few years.

I'm not a big fan of Archie and the Riverdale gang but I was really impressed with this series especially the Francesco Francavilla artwork. I also enjoyed the inclusion of the Lovecraft mythos in issue #6 and was glad to see Chilling Adventures of Sabrina have the same high quality in story telling and artwork.

Yes, Francavilla's art is really amazing. It's clean, moody, efficient, and shows great control. Like David Mazzuchelli or David Aja, he uses very few lines but makes them all count. Artists like him are always a joy to follow.

I need to get back into this series, and the start the Sabrina one. I stopped reading Afterlife when it really started missing ship dates, but the good thing about that is that means I haven't missed too many issues.

I'm buying it a second time in magazine format. Love the series, and Sabrina. I thought I saw a preview for a third horror title from Archie too recently.

It's wild to think that Archie has become one of the most exciting publishers of the modern era while the big two spin their wheels.

I read this through the library and it just sat on my table for, like, 5 weeks and 5 days. But I FINALLY read it before it had to go back and it was really, shockingly good. Weird.
