Since Chew will be finishing up here fairly soon I thought I'd start a re-read. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh no! Unless something has changed, they've said it will end with issue 60.

Ragnarok has me hungering for a really good fantasy series. Are there any being produced today? Should I check out modern Conan?

Got my box for January today.... Usagi is another one-and-done, and it's pretty great... it seems like a pretty typical Usagi story with an especially good fight scene until the twist ending, which was awesome. Astro City continues to be it top form.. i'll even forgive him for having a Patrick Rothfuss quote on the cover. Stop reading comics and write the damn 3rd booK! (I digress) Steam Man took a really dark turn, which I should have expected from Joe Lansdale. Not sure where they go next, actually, but it's very entertaining so far

I just read the Johns/ Frank Shazam! tpb. Out of all of the New 52 reboots, I thought this one worked the best. I wouldn't be surprised if this story was used as the basis for the movie.

The second Hawkeye hardcover finally came out late last year, and although I welcomed the conclusion of the first chapter in Hawguy's new street-level career, I felt a little disappointed by the unevenness of the stories found therein. The Fraction/Aja chapters were grimmer than in the first hardcover and more depressing than amusing. They were still engaging, but kept being interrupted by light-hearted adventures featuring Kate Bishop. (I like Kate, but the constant transition between urban doom and gloom and cheerful Californian derring-do was jarring).
Maiming Clint yet again was also unnecessary, although I think the use of ASL in the comic is a brilliant touch.
I'd give the book a B+, while the first one was A+++ with a special mention attached to it.

Decompression can be murder, but I like the tone of what I've seen so far in "Conan the avenger". (I'm up to "the damned horde").

I liked the first arc of Conan the Avenger... the 2nd one didn't do much for me. I think I might even have the 1st issue or two of that storyline sitting in my to read pile

Reading the Nu52 I, Vampire, oh hell yes this is fantastic, with amazing art by Andrea Sorrentino. Why I didnt notice this 4 years ago is beyond me. Of course I was probably too busy with the amazing new direction DC took with there tired old characters, along with the incredible array of new talent like Rob Liefield on Important books.

I thought it was good until the JL Dark x-over then it spawned a new direction which I was totally uninterested in and dropped the book, and it seemed so did a lot of other folk as it was cancelled soon thereafter even though the first volume of the trade was a NY Times bestseller. -M

Ruins by Peter Kuper Pretty. It's pretty. Pretty, pretty, pretty. It also seems like Kuper just visited Mexico and this book is an excuse to draw whatever he feels like. The plot is a loose flopsy thing anyway and their are plenty of diversions that don't really tie back into the main story. Definitely worth getting it from the library, but...

Someone mentioned "Paper Girls" in a group I am in. They described it as "Like an all-girl Goonies." WHAT? I'm on it. So, I got all 5 issues that are out so far. We'll see how I like this. Gonna start it in a few.
