Cave Carson #1 seemed fairly interesting, wish I could say the same about Doom Patrol and Shade

Finally got to read the Gotham Academy Annual.. it's (sorta) a Batman Beyond crossover, which was super fun. Terry's dad is a student there.... I feel like Batman Beyond is more than 1 generation in the future, but I guess I can let that go. Besides he does (briefly) get turned into a Vampire, so maybe he lives long. Also, Maps went to the future for a second, so I fully expect an actualy Maps/Batman Beyond crossover at some point! You better not disappoint me, DC!

I read the first trade of The Wicked And The Divine this weekend, having borrowed it from the library. Not bad. I'll have to see if they have more. Don't know if I liked it quite enough to buy it. I'll see how the second one goes.

That was a really fun annual, I loved all the easter eggs.

I liked Doom Patrol, and like the looks of Shade, Cave Carson and Mother Panic. Just being tight fisted til they drop $ 1 each after a couple months on Comixology.

DC had announced they were no longer dropping digital prices after a few months as part of the Rebirth announcement. Whether they changed their mind or if it applies to Young Animal an other lines I don't know, but that was something they slipped in there with the press release on the Rebirth announcement. -M

Huh. Well, if that's correct, I'll get em now. Lots of stuff, esp from the Big Two, will survive without my immediate buy. The indies, like Valiant, or Oni, I buy if I'm burning in love with it to help keep it going.
I'm a DP nut so I'll be picking that up asap; besides, I'm wanting to read that next chapter.
Thanks for letting me know mrp

Won't affect me, as I doubt I'll ever pay more than $1 for a comic book again.

Birthright by Joshua Williamson and Andrei Bressan
Williamson begins with a typical fantasy trope: while playing catch with his father in a park one afternoon, young Mikey is whisked away to the mystical realm of Terrenos, where it has been prophesied that he is the 'Chosen One' that will defeat the evil force threatening this land.
What Williamson does then, that helps to ground this fantasy tale more so than normal, is to show the effects of Mikey's disappearance on his family. The strain it puts on his parents' marriage as it spirals towards divorce, his father's slip into alcoholism as he faces scrutiny from law enforcement over Mikey's disappearance (and possible murder) while Mikey's younger brother refuses to give up the search nor hope of the safe return of his best friend.
Then the miraculous happens, one year later, Mikey returns, as a battle-hardened warrior of a grown man. While the remnants of his family contend with this surprise and mystery, Williamson delivers a nice twist at the end of #1 that turns this twist on it's ear.
Williamson deftly switches between current events, as Mikey needs to complete his 'mission' while his family is torn apart again over his reappearance, with past events of young Mikey in Terrenos, learning of his supposed destiny and what it may mean for him personally. Themes of family, hope, love, fate, and home resonate throughout this violent dark fantasy.
Bressan's art is equally impressive, from showing the personal downward slide of Mikey's father to the exotic dangerous beasts of a faraway land. The action is fierce and fast and bloody, just what you would expect from this type of tale.
I tore through the Vol 1 TPB which reprints #1-5. It's rare when I come across a title that I find this engrossing, but this creative duo have created two worlds worthy of visiting and seeing what happens next.

Way has said he's going to give fair balance and blend to all previous iterations, so you can bet we'll see Rita.

Yep, so did my daughter so I'll be getting them for her. The art is nice too, not the old Hanna Barbera style, which is what first caught my eye.
