Read through the whole Rebirth Flash series in the last week or so. In general I was pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. It can be talky, which turns me off a lot, but has been fun overall. Not sure I really get how there are 2 Wally Wests running around, but the Barry stuff has been ok. But ...the art...man has that guy been channeling Infantino or what, and I do mean in a good way, modern sensibilities with classic homage in all the right places. Well worth a look, theres not a lot of the new DC Im liking, but this is one.

Not crazy about two Wally West's running around (pun intended). They have to come up with a different name for Nu Wally.

Williamson knows how to write a good detective story, but he might as well be a complete ignoramus when it comes to character development. He has the potential for greatness with The Flash, but he needs to become a better craftsman and hone himself

I haven't seen anyone else mention DC's spiritual successor to the 80's DC Challenge, celebrating Jack Kirby's 100th birthday with Kamandi Challenge. Like the aforementioned DC Challenge, it has a round robin of creators with a different creative team each issue. I'm excited that it will be exploring Earth-51 (Kirbyworld). As you can see, besides Kamandi, we'll also be getting some New Gods, O.M.A.C., and however the lady is on the right in blue. It's been a fun read, and similar to the excellent Kamandi feature in Wednesday Comics from a few years back. I'd be surprised if someone picked this up and didn't like. Lots of rollicking Kirby fun with a 2017 twist. The creative roster includes Dan Didio, Keith Giffen & Scott Koblish Dan Abnett and Dale Eaglesham Peter J. Tomasi and Neal Adams Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti James Tynion IV and Carlos D’Anda Bill Willingham and Ivan Reis Steve Orlando and Philip Tan Marguerite Bennett and Dan Jurgens Keith Giffen and Steve Rude Tom King and Kevin Eastman Greg Pak and Joe Prado Rob Williams and Walter Simonson Gail Simone and Ryan Sook Len Wein and José Luis García-López I don't think I knew that the Kamandi series was going to include other Kirby creations like OMAC and the New Gods. Any more details on this - like which creative teams will be handling which characters, for example? I was optimistic about this before it started but the ones I've looked at so far haven't really grabbed me. But it's still fairly early so I might get the trade when it's done, depending on how the later issues look.

I know you're a Kirby purist, but I think you'd like how they're doing this.
It been top notch and a fun read.

You know how sometimes you'll start reading a comic and get this, IDK, feeling deep down in your bones that it's going to be something truly great? Because that's how I am with David's Scarlet Spider

Went shopping at Walmart yesterday, decided to take a gander at the knick-knack/novelty section where they usually keep all the trading cards and I found something curious; $5 blind bags of both Marvel and DC. The books in front that they use to sell you on buying it are very recent, but the two others are kind of hidden and are maybe one or two years old. Would have been nice if they just did something like Hasbro did with their Marvel Legends figures and reprint various titles from all eras, but that's too much to ask for a easy way for DC & Marvel to recoup a profit on unsold books. I bought two for myself and one for a friend to help ease her mind about an upsetting situation. The books beyond just the main one were unexpectedly surprising and immensely enjoyable to read. *The Flash Pack*The Flash v5 #9- Good issue. Williamson seems to be getting slowly better at characterization, but the bit with Wally(s) trying to help Barry remember them is getting kind of old and just reminds me of the Peter Pan plays where the audience is supposed to help Tinkerbell come back to life. Batman & Robin v2 #35- Great variant cover with even better story behind it! Bruce is trapped on Apokolips, trying to save Damian from being used to fuel some device of Glorious Godfrey's. Meanwhile, Jason, Tim, Barbara, and Alfred trick Cyborg into coming to the Batcave so that they can use him as a living Mother Box to create a boomtube to rescue Bruce. Batman Eternal #33- Really didn't even bother with this one considering that it was a year long weekly continuously serialized story, but then again, isn't that what comics are supposed to be? *Trinity Pack*Trinity V2 #1- Lois invites Bruce and Diana to dinner so that the two can get to know her, Clark, and Jon better. Cosmic shenanigans issue Batman/Superman V1 #34- A somber issue that's very poignant when read after Manapul's Trinity. Superman is about to die and needs Bruce to help him find Kara to help "pass the torch" before it's too late Green Lantern v5 #34- Another very somber issue with Hal's younger brother Jim (along with his wife and two kids) having since been relocated to Mogo following a very nasty Lantern war Overall, very much worth the $10 and it definitely gave me a better sense of Tomasi, Manapul, Williamson, and Vendetti's writing chops

I know you're a Kirby purist, but I think you'd like how they're doing this. It been top notch and a fun read. I'm keeping an open mind. Even though I said nothing has really grabbed me, nothing has really turned me off yet either, in the previews I've seen online or the glances I've taken at it in the local comics stores. The inclusion of other characters from Kirby's DC period makes the series even more enticing but at the same time potentially disastrous: the reason being that I think most comics creators appreciate Kamandi in a way they don't, as a rule, the New Gods. So, much as I'd be interested in seeing, say, Conner's & Palmiotti's version of Barda or Orion, there's a much smaller probability they or anyone else would come to those characters with the same understanding they would to Kamandi. DC's track record shows this over and over again.

I was just telling a brother of mine I was visiting today about the inevitable probability that the New Gods would show up on the big screen.

Because that's how I am with David's Scarlet Spider See I went the other way, I loved the character back in the day and the new costume really caught my eye but it just didn't feel all that special to me when I actually read it. Instead of something new and exciting we just got an amoral Spider-Man that felt like Deadpool-lite...and I don't even care for Deadpool-original.

Did I waste money on this drivel...then Peter David? Really? ??

Glancing over this year's list of Eisner nominees, I was surprised to see Deathstroke Rebirth nominated in the Best Ongoing Series category.
Sufficiently intrigued, I bought the Kindle edition of the first trade of the series, which collects the first five issues.
Written by Christopher Priest, with art by Joe Bennett, Carlo Pagulayan, Mark Morales (and even Larry Hama), after a mission in an African war-torn country, Slade discovers that someone has put out a contract on his daughter, Rose, the Ravager. With her (reluctant) assistance, Slade begins to track down the person(s) responsible, only to see things become more complicated as the trial leads to Gotham City...
I think I see why this was nominated. Featuring a character such as Slade, there is plenty of action and violence. But underneath all that is Priest's deft handling of the twisted Wilson family dynamic. How Slade's professional choices as a mercenary and assassin eventually cost him his two sons, Grant & Joseph and how Rose, his illegitimate daughter, cost him his marriage. His focus on mission priorities, time spent away from his home and family, the emotional toll and damage incurred by this on his sons which helped lead to their fate. Slade may see Rose now as some form of second chance at being a father but he'll never admit out loud. Priest handles their burgeoning relationship with sharp wit and great dialogue, forming a unique father/daughter bond built upon the ashes of family tragedy and bloody violence.
Extra kudos for the Batman/Robin appearances in #4-5. Priest shows how Bruce and Slade may be more alike than either would care to admit as well as their wide differences (especially when it comes to their children, Rose and Damian). Speaking of Damian, Priest nails his character here. Full of cockiness and confidence, his dialogue caused me to laugh out loud more than once.
Be forewarned, the trade ends on a great cliffhanger. Now I have to buy the rest of the issues to see what happens next. Another hidden gem in the Rebirth stable of books.

I enjoyed the first few issues of Priest's Deathstroke, but it seems to be kinda meandering now.

I enjoyed the first few issues of Priest's Deathstroke, but it seems to be kinda meandering now. Welcome to how I was with Vendetti's X-O, can I get you an entire bottle of Jack Daniels to drown your brain in? And it honestly upsets me because Vendetti has shown himself to be a vastly capable writer, able to intermingle both action and tragedy with almost Shakespearean ease. I just guess he just got super burnt out juggling so many writing duties at once, which is what I'm worried will eventually happen with Kindt. Ninjak is still fairly good, but for a while it was pretty much "Mcguffin Quest: The Comic"
