I checked out The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina last year. Really loved the art, but the characterization/plotting wasn't to my liking. That's due to the strong aversion I have toward the "witches are Satanists" stereotype, though, rather than the quality of the writing.

Re-read/caught up with Fiona Staples and Brian K. Vaughan's Saga this weekend, reading all 9 trades (covering 54 issues). This series started in 2012 just as I was getting back into new comics after a hiatus, and I was buying it as singles for the first 18 issues (3 trades), but ended up selling off the singles at a great price and switching to trades after those first three volumes were out. I had previously read up through Vol. 5, so the reread was those five volumes, and volumes 6-9 were first time reads. I had been missing volume 8, but recently picked it up form Amazon, triggering my desire to catch up on the series (which is currently in a year plus long hiatus itself). It ended with quite a game changer for the story, and racked up a George R.R. Martin-like body count among supporting characters, antagonists, and protagonists. It was an engrossing read, and I was sucked in, reading a couple of volumes in one sitting (which is rare for me), and each time I finished one, I wanted to find out what happened next, so would pick the next up immediately. It's going to be a long wait until the series starts up again and finishes an arc to be collected as volume 10 though. -M
It's incredibly well mounted story.. saga. Can't wait to see in which direction it's gonna go, and there are plenty of options - political (Perhaps not, initially there were two overly zealous persecutors, one led by sheer ambition and the other one, Gwendoline, by personal vendetta. Gwendoline is out of the picture now.), ongoing war (which served mostly as a backdrop so far), adventure, human interest, all of the above. We know Hazel won't play any significant role in global events - she won't end the war, save the World(s), etc.

DC Comics' The Force, Casting and Dark Knights metal were pretty decent but kind of long winded. No Justice was ok but too much to handle.
I just got into binge reading the newer 2018 series of Justice League and hope its good

Finally checked out the new Hawkman. I’m only an issue and a half in, but I love it so far. Beautiful art from Hitch, and the story is taking the mess of hawkman continuity and making it make sense so far.

For 2 hours straight earlier tonight I binge read issues 36 to 49 of the current Marvel Comics Star Wars. story arcs were decent but i couldnt stand the art work of Luke, Han and Leia. Its like the artists were just photocopying screenshots of Luke, Leia and Han right out of New Hope and Empire Strikes Back constantly.

I personally like that art style, but I get why some people wouldn't.. it does give a sense of staticness that really the whole universe could use moving away from!. Read the 1st trade of Black Hammer today... I'm not a huge Jeff Lemire fan (I WANT to be, because he seems like a cool guy, but none of his stuff has really stuck my fancy). I definitely enjoyed it enough to get the next one, but depending on where it goes I'm not sure I'm all in. It has this weird MTV 'Real World Superheroes' vibe that I'm not sure i like. I was definitely intrigued by the world of Spiral City though. if he has different stuff to say about the genre than, say Busiek in Astro City, I could definitely be amused .

I read the first five TPBs, which I had borrowed from my local library, but they never got any more, so I stalled out on getting further along. This is definitely a book that I think I may pick up from Amazon here and there to get all of the trades in the series eventually. The pace of releases are what really is Saga's biggest issue, IMO.. the story is great when it comes out.. but it's so long in between you practically have to re-read it every time. I honestly would have to go look at the shelf to see if I got vol. 9 or not. I've kinda decided to just wait until it's done then read it all at once... I suspect it'll be fantastic that way.

I read the first two issues of IDW's Star Trek Year Five, chronicling the final year of the original Enterprise crew's initial 5 year mission. Fun read, characterization works, interesting story involving the Tholians. Tried the first issue of Excellence from Image, a story about a society built on a magical hierarchy and exclusion. Interesting take and thoughtful subtext of social commentary, but felt like it would read better in chunks, so I will trade wait the rest of the series. Read Gogar #1, a magical epic fantasy tale by Ken Garing the feels equal marts Jeff Smith, Moebius and Miyazaki. It's a charming little tale but also a fantasy with scope and thematic underpinnings. I'm in on this series. Also read the first three issues of Invisible Kingdom from Dark Horse/Berger Books, a creator-owned tale by G. Willow Wislon and Christian Ward. This is s sci-fi tales dealing with religion, corproate domination of culture, politics, and individual choice in the face of those things, and is a tale that has resonance. Extremely well done and I am in on this one as well. -M

I'll definitely be getting INvisible Kingdom in trade... glad to hear it's good!
So Newbury was either out of Iron Man, or it didn't come out on time, but I did grab Belit (which is still crappy, but I'm enjoying the text story, so I decided to get the rest), but I did grab a Aquaman-focused grab bag that scored me 5 consecutive issues and the Drowned Earth special. I felt a bit lost to be honest, but there's definitely enough I liked to encourage me to get the trades of the Dan Abnett series (looks like at least the first couple I can get at the library). There was also a Bendis Superman in there, which confirmed that I have no interest.
I also picked up Star Wars #108, which was fantastic. Is it too much to hope they'll do this again now and then?

I like Christian Ward's artwork but haven't been attracted to the Marvel stuff he's done. Glad to see he's doing some independent work, though whether I read Invisible Kingdom or not will still depend on how the story sounds.

I hate to say it, but I've read a ton of stuff and it mostly sucks. The Gaiman universe stuff is boring and unimagniniative. The standard fair Marvel and DC stuff has all be not worth the cover price. If they cost a buck, they would be ok.. There have been a few exceptions in the last year. Some of the Thor Stories were OK++ The ST TNG Mirror Univserve book by IDW was simply excellent (especially for star trek books) Good++ - and feels like the series! Gideon Falls has been Good+ The Fantastic Four started slow but I did enjoy the end of the Doom Storyline and was a Good++ there, but only OK overall Morrison and Sharps GL has been, to my delight and suprise, very very excellent to read! Excellent+ Terrifics has been OK++ Bendis Superman ... blah Kings Heros ... blah Valiant was really good and i like Britany which was an Excellent, and then it just croaked!! there are others. I read on the Subway so I read a lot
