Spider-Man: Life Story #4 Four issues in, I don't know what to make of this miniseries. A real-time retelling of Spider-Man's history illustrated by Mark Bagley is something that should appeal to me, but I'm not altogether keen on this execution of the idea. Six issues simply doesn't provide enough room to tell a story spanning six decades of Peter Parker's life without it feeling hopelessly rushed and truncated (I understand this is Marvel's fault rather than Zdarsky's, though.). And the unrelenting dour tone doesn't appeal to me, either. I'd have probably called it quits by now if Bagley wasn't handling the art.

I hate to say it, but I've read a ton of stuff and it mostly sucks. The Gaiman universe stuff is boring and unimagniniative. The standard fair Marvel and DC stuff has all be not worth the cover price. If they cost a buck, they would be ok.. There have been a few exceptions in the last year. I still buy and enjoy pretty much every modern Marvel/DC book, but only because they are less a buck each, as I wait a few months for bargain bins, bundles, and digital sales. I can’t imagine paying anywhere close to full price. If my pricing ever goes away, I’d probably give up the big two.

I wouldn't mind the idea of a 70 year old Peter Parker still married to MJ and retired... Marvel has destroyed for me the Spider-man series anyway. They couldn't leave good enough alone.

"unrelenting dour tone"
That's pretty much why I gave up on the character DECADES ago.
Crazy enough, these days, MY favorite version of Spider-Man is the 1967 Grantray-Lawrence TV cartoons. Those were FUN, and had great jazz music by Ray Ellis.
The 1968 and 1969 Krantz Films cartoons are also fun, but, MAINLY for the KPM & Capitol "production music". They work less as "adventure shows" and more as "really weird jazz videos".

If 2015 counts I finally read Supergirl Matrix Convergence 1&2. I got one as part of a lot and popped for a cheapish copy of the other one (although a strange variant cover edition I guess nobody actually cared about). Something about a pocket universe? Why Ambush Bug? With so few things getting published... why this? A preview of a Batmite comic in the end of one makes me think I don't understand anything anymore. What the...? Can I take over the comic industry please? I mean I have some of these Matrix version of Supergirl comics from the '90s and don't understand what this is. Aiming at collectors leads to this kind of in-joke to an in-joke some editor dreamed of seeing actually appear?
And Morrisey is singing "burn the blessed comic store, hang the distributor hang the distributor" etc. Let's just make everything #1, there will never be any #2s again... but maybe #0 and minus issues, let's not go completely off the rails. Too much Ambush Bug, I've lost the plot entirely now.

Ambush Bug is divine. Don't be a heretic.
Convergence in toto matters not one iota to me, though. Just another illogical* pseudo-story created in yet another vain attempt at shoring up the house-of-cards-built-on-sand that the DC Universe has become.
*How can Brainiac snatch persons, places, and things from timelines which no longer exist if those timelines no longer exist‽ Stupid writers are stupid.

I think that as comic fans, we forget just how important that other media is to the success of comics. That Spider-Man series was essential for propelling Petery to the top of the heap. In the 1940's, Superman got a huge boost from the Fleishman Studio's short films, which are the Classic Superman.

I don't read all that much Marvel any more, but I have really been enjoying Spider-Man: Life Story.
I wasn't sure what to make of it at first, so I picked up Issue #1 and was pretty impressed.

The only new Marvel comics Im all caught up on is Immortal Hulk and Star Wars.
In my opinion, Immortal Hulk is pretty good and somewhat dark. its gotten a bi gory now with issues 18 and 19 though

I read Hunt For Wolverine: Dead Ends earlier today. Not bad but the story was short. guess all the good action was in Madripoor and Adamantium Agenda anyway

Favorite series I’ve read the past week or two has been Man-Eaters from Image. It gets knocked for being heavy-handed in it’s message, but that’s sort of the point, and they play with it creatively. And the design choices and storytelling techniques are handled very well. Very inventive book.
Every time I dig into indy stuff I wonder why I still bother with mainstream books.

also last night i binge read issues 49 to 55 of IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Does the comic still stay good to read or does it start getting boring later on?

There's a lot more emphasis on the non-turtle supporting characters as the book progresses, but the plots move on at a decent pace and it certainly doesn't get boring.

Just read Archie #636 (from 2012, not exactly recent, but still 'modern' according to this board's timeline): A rather amusing gender-swap tale, which was caused by some machinations by Sabrina's cat, Salem. It was written by frequent Sabrina scribe, Tania del Rio, and I just read one of those as well... ...which I found a lot more fun and interesting than I thought I would. It actually has me interested in reading more, although I probably won't any time soon, because at this point I've got so much other stuff to read. But I have to say, del Rio writes, and draws (in Manga style), some very engaging teen angst/romance stories - with witchcraft. Otherwise, both of these are contained in this Archie digest that I have: (A bunch of these fat, 'best of' retrospective digests were published a few years ago to mark Archie's 75th anniversary, and if you're an Archie fan, they're really worth picking up now that used or remaindered copies can be found rather cheaply.)

Wolverine & Captain America- Weapon Plus #1 Really interesting title that feels like it was partially lifted from Ultimate Marvel. Basic premise is that the government agency behind both project rebirth and weapon x have created a unifying project called Weapon Plus that are essentially clones of Steve Rogers with the intent of protecting America It's up there with Infinity Wars Soldier Supreme in terms of coolness factor for me
