I'm making my way through Steve Ditko's Shade the Changing Man and am positively hooked. I understand a ninth issue was completed and included in the Cancelled Comics Calvalcade ashcan. It was also reworked into a story in Detective Comics #487 and then finally printed in its original form for the Steve Ditko Omnibus vol. 1 (devoted to the Shade stories).
I guess I'm wondering if any of you have read it and, if so, is it worth spending $36 bucks for an entire hardcover volume of the Shade stories I've already read in order to get that one story? Or is the reworked story in Detective #487 of comparable quality?
Thanks in advance!

I've seen the omnibus available at my library. I intend to borrow and read it soon. No need for me to spend that money to own it.

I have the omnibus and quite like it. I unfortunately do not have the other version to compare.

The story that was printed in Detective Comics #487 was not the actual Shade story; it was the back-up strip "The Odd Man".
