When was the last appearance of 'ask the answer man' by Bob Rozakis? I used to love his columns, and his 'Mazing Man series. Looks like he retired from comics in 2003, but still occasionally makes appearances or writes articles for Back Issue. I recently re-watched The Avengers and I was reminded of this question that has been brewing in the back of my mind ever since I saw the first MCU Thor film. Bear in mind that I've read zero Thor comics, and the mythological side of the Marvel Universe is completely off my radar.
In the comics, is Thor actually a god -- as in, a supernatural deity -- or is he an alien as established in the MCU? And by extension, what of the rest of the gods from other pantheons, like Hercules?

in the comics, most of the gods are supernatural beings, formed and influenced by belief and worship. Thor is in Marvel Comics actually the son of the Elder Goddess Gaea. Most Marvel deities can trace their lineage back to the Elder Gods, who were in turn born from the Demiurge, the life force of the Earth itself.
There are some comics that do have the gods being aliens (Earth X and its sequels is the main one, I think).

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor and the other Asgardians are aliens, much more advanced than humans.

I've been trying to indentify a comic from my fuzzy childhood memories and was wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone? Would have probably been a 70's horror/strange tales anthology type comic. The first story/splash page was of a scared woman with webbed feet running from a mob along a sea cliff. She gets hit in the head with a rock and knocked into the water. Another story from the same issue involved an ocean liner and a giant octopus.I think there was another about a submarine being marooned and the lone survivor being attacekd by sharks. Sorry for the vague descriptions but I used to look at this comic daily when I was a kid before I learned to read and it was thrown out somewhere along the line and I'm trying to identify it so that I may purchase it. Thanks

What are their most violent moments in comics? Off the top of my head (brain set mainly to 90s & 00s for obvious reason) Fight with the Joker in Dark Knight Returns. For the Man Who Has Everything (first example of angry burny eye pose?) Kingpin beat down during JMS run. Brawl in the brothel in Man Without Fear. Any Ennis issue of MAX. Maxwell Lord snap. |

Essential Thor vol. 4 is incredibly expensive. Apparently, it wasn't reprinted and/or didn't have a big print run. Does anyone know why that's the case? It seems so weird that vol. 3 or 5 are available on Ebay for under $15, but vol. 4 runs for about $150.

It seems so weird that vol. 3 or 5 are available on Ebay for under $15, but vol. 4 runs for about $150. That's pretty much standard practice with trades these days. A volume goes out of print, the after-market price skyrockets, a new printing comes out, price returns to normal, different volume goes out of print -- repeat. A few times, I've actually made money off of this when trades I no longer cared about were suddenly selling for $100 or more on Amazon. But it's also prevented me from completing some trade runs. I'm still waiting for a re-release of the Hardcover Kirby Fourth World vols 2 and 4. |

The thing that really mystifies me about Thor is that material is SO reprinted... I sold my Essential Thor vol. 1 for $10 credit to my comic shop when the epic came out.. there, of course they're the MMW.. why the heck would anyone pay a premium for black and white reprints?
Well, actually I didn't realize how far those go. I think vol. 4 might actually go past the MMW ones.. that makes a BIT more sense.
Not that it's that much better, but it's running about $75 on Amazon.
