Has Daredevil ever tracked anyone by smell? I remember numerous occasions of him tracking things by listening , but never by smell. I have a hazy memory of DD tracking down Foggy by the smell of the Cheetos that he ate.

Didn't he track the Fixer who had had Matt's dad killed by the scent of his cigar as he chased him through a crowd in the very first issue of Daredevil?

Although you probably don't need to be Daredevil to do that... If you've ever been on a crowded New York street or (especially a) subway, you would know it would take some kind of super-power to pick out one smell out of the myriad of putrid odors that linger in that atmosphere no matter how distinctive that smell might be. The smell of cheap cigar doesn't stand out over the smell of stale sweat, urine, rotting food trash, ammonia (used to try to clean cover the other smells), car exhaust, etc. etc. so yeah you would need to be like Daredevil to pick that cigar out. -M

A colleague dropped me off some comics today because he knows I collect/read. Sleepwalker was one of the issues and it featured Spider-Man. I thought it was decent...what is the rest of Sleepwalker like?

I thought it was decent...what is the rest of Sleepwalker like? Never read it; but, it never appealed to me, visually. They got 3 years out of it; so, it must have had decent sales, for a while. The writer was Bob Budiansky, who wasn't exactly a name to reckon with, though he had a decent run on one of the Spidey books, which probably helped with that crossover. It has some pretty ugly covers, though, although a lot of material from that era falls into the same boat, in my eyes.

Yeah this issue was good and read more as a Spider-Man story than a Sleepwalker one. I have also avoided because with the exception of a few covers like this one, they look terrible. The second part of this story in the next issue has a horrible cover. I just thought of the premise and writing saved it, perhaps it might be worth tracking down someday.

Re: Sleepwalker
All I remember is some Marvel editor claiming Sleepwalker was Sandman done right, which was one of the most ludicrous claims in comics I had ever seen (at least until the dawn of the internet age of fandom that is). I tried reading a few issues when one of my goals was to buy everything Marvel was putting out and just didn't like it at all, and it was one of the first titles I dropped (along with the Punisher and 2099 titles and a few others) when I decided that was a ludicrous goal (it was a childhood dream to be able to do it and it was the first time I had the resources to do so, but I quickly realized what sounded good to my 8 year old self wasn't all it was cracked up to be and stopped after 2-3 months).

Bob Budiansky vs Neil Gaiman? That's like a boxing match between Don Knotts and Muhammad Ali! Marvel, at the dawn of the 90s, was a real mess. Really, most of that decade was not kind to them, in terms of quality, across the line.

Re: Sleepwalker All I remember is some Marvel editor claiming Sleepwalker was Sandman done right, That’s hilarious! The very first reaction I had to Sleepwalker was “oh, this is Sandman done wrong!” It was allegedly Tom DeFalco who said it (I had to do a little google fu as I couldn't remember which editor). There is some dispute to the acuracy fo the statement, and it could have been It's Sandman done the Marvel way which is what some claim the quote was. It was made wile DeFalco was EiC of Marvel. -M
