Superman's boxing match with Luthor is a great story. I know Lex is hardly a hero, but just the fact that Supes could trade punches with a (surprisingly stocky) Luthor and take some serious abuse made for a nice break from the usual. And he even pretended to lose to help Lexor people!

Does the story explain why Lex's boots are glowing?

Superman punched Green Lantern in JLA #167. It's mentioned that GL's ring protects him. And really it's the Wizard and Professor Zoom in the Leaguers' bodies.

I see that Mort Weisinger can't sneak the fastball by you.. The answer revealed:

G.L. and Superman had a quasi-bona fide fight in DC Comics Presents #26 He is actually an alien creature who has taken the form and ring of Hal Jordan, but is absolutely as proficient as he is at using it. The fight went as pretty much all of Superman's other fights against other heroes went: he holds back as he decides what to do next. In this particular case it was incredible simple: punch him.

I don't know why this is a question. Of course heroes fought each other all the time at DC.

I don't know why this is a question. Of course heroes fought each other all the time at DC. My initial question was if Earth-1 Wonder Woman and Superman ever fought each other. Rarely Superman (well, of course, he's Superman) fought his Earth-1 colleagues. And in virtually every instance of these fights, they lasted more than one panel just because Supes allowed it. Simply, no hero on Earth 1 could compete physically with him. A few things have changed since Crisis: for example, I've already found TEN fights between Superman and Wonder Woman. And if I keep looking, I will surely find others.

K, my apologies. I didn't understand the initial question. After crisis, Lobo seemed to be his match.

K, my apologies. I didn't understand the initial question. After crisis, Lobo seemed to be his match. Post Crisis, a lot of heroes were his match because: a) they depowered him, so now more heroes are in the same league with him (Wonder Woman, Martian Manhunter) b) they merged the various universes, so their own top dogs now live on the same Earth (Captain Marvel, Captain Atom)

c) Lobo was a "hot" character at the time.

Needs to get his hands up. No wonder Luthor gets a solid shot to the abdomen; Superman has no defense. On the other hand, Lex is keeping his left hand too far away from his body and he is off balance, since he isn't pivoting on his back leg properly. Ted Grant needs to give them some lessons!

I listened to a podcast yesterday that stated that Captain Marvell got cancer from Avengers #89 when he escaped the negative zone. I was always under the impression that he got cancer from when he fought Nitro in Issue # 34 of his series. He seals a nerve gas at the end of the issue but passes out and is hospitalized. Does anyone know what the canon is on this event ?

I actually never heard of the Negative Zone thing... is it like one of those impromptu Bendis retcons, or maybe the podcasters misremembered?

They never cited where they got the theory that it was escaping the negative zone, and ended, they never even mentioned the Nitro story. I'm inclined to believe that they are younger readers and they don't know as much as we old dogs do.
