A quick question for collectors of The Jack Kirby Collector - while following along in Tolworthy's thread about Captain Victory in the Pacific Age, I decided that I should really actually finally bite the bullet and try and collect/read the original Captain Victory and the Galactic Rangers series... well, one thing lead to another and I ended up expanding that out into picking up the Topps and Dynamite takes on the 'Kirbyverse' concept as well. Since both of those attempts at turning Kirby's unused ideas and concepts into comic-book universes ended up fizzling out and being left unfinished, I've been doing some looking around for any interviews that might give some details on how they might have continued. Long story short, I found an interview with Kurt Busiek where he mentioned that an outline for the unfinished Victory 4-issue miniseries from Topps was going to be published in an upcoming issue of The Jack Kirby Collector... but it doesn't say what issue that was going to be. I was wondering if anyone here might know if that outline was ever actually published? I've found an interview with Kurt Busiek in the 31st issue of The Jack Kirby Collector which has a couple details on his Silver Star and on some of the upcoming plans for the Topps Kirbyverse, and I've also found an earlier issue which has the original notes/idea pitch for The Secret City Saga and it's characters, but if there was ever more information published about the unfinished Victory mini-series I'd love to be able to track it down!

You might be able to find out if you follow Kurt on twitter and ask him. He's pretty accessible. He used to be a regular on CBR, too.

Thanks for the suggestion, Icctrombone - Kurt does indeed appear fairly approachable, from what I have seen of him online, so if no one around here knows anything I might try that

Oh, thank's for bringing that up Farrar - I had heard of it and the Graphite Edition of Silver Star, but hadn't as yet given much thought to picking them up... looking through the preview for it though, it does look very nice (and the original screenplay is very tempting too).

I rarely buy variant covers of any kind but bought the variant of the Kirbyverse Dynamite was doing cause I was such a fervent supporter of the project.
They were different, but I liked both Kirbyverse approaches.
Anxious to hear your results coinilius !

Thanks Hondobrode - I remember being aware of the Topps Kirbyverse back in the day, but don't remember ever seeing it around here (in a smaller city in Australia, not a capital city)... although we did get Topps comics, as I was a big fan of the X-Files comic when it started! Same with Dynamite's Kirbyverse - I was aware of it, but not interested enough to seek it out at the time. Which is a shame, as while both projects are flawed, there was still enough good stuff within them that I wish they could have each stayed around at least a little longer... after a bit of a fumbled start, I think the Topps stuff was getting promising just before it finished (not so coincidentally when Kurt Busiek came on board) and I would have loved to have seen the Sterling Gates Captain Victory series at Dynamite reach at least some kind of conclusion. And a successful version of The Secret City Saga is still out there waiting to be discovered!

An update on my question for anyone that is interested - there is an interview with Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross in Issue 56 of The Jack Kirby Collector where they discuss the then-upcoming Kirby Genesis event/mini-series from Dynamite. During the interview they discuss the unfinished Victory mini from Topps, which when combined with information from the Kurt Busiek interview in Issue 31 pretty much fills in a lot of the blanks for how it would have played out...

Just to add to that - Issue 21 of The Jack Kirby Collector has a wonderful article about the trials and tribulations of the Topps Kirbyverse which includes the original premise for The Secret City by Jack Kirby, which is well worth a read for people interested in the Topps Kirbyverse and/or the characters and concepts of the Secret City itself. Personally, I don't think either the Topps version or the Dynamite attempt in Kirby Genesis really hit on a successful model for what to do with the Secret City and it's emissaries, but I do think that there is potential in it.

In the 90's I bought everything that involved superheroes. I really enjoyed Kirby's Topps Characters. It was a special treat to see the SA artists get the work in those books.

For more on the Topps Kirbyverse - I just found out that through Steve Englehart's website you can purchase the scripts for 3 issues of the Captain Victory series that he was going to do for Topps, before the Kirbyverse collapsed.

Did Jack Kirby ever drew/draw She Hulk?

Did Jack Kirby ever drew/draw She Hulk? I doubt it...she debuted in 1980, and Kirby left Marvel a couple years before that. Would've been great, though.
