Kirby's portrayal of women wasn't as good as Romita's, but it wasn't as bad as Ditko's. Hmmm, Ditko's portrayals of women were "bad." Not the way I see it...

His version of Gwen's is the worst (except for Kane, maybe).

Ditko gave Clea a great pair of legs in those old Dr. Strange comics.
I've always found a lot of Kirby's female characters attractive - Crystal, Medusa, Barda, Beautiful Dreamer, Karnilla in her earlier appearances, etc. In fact most of them have never looked as good when drawn by someone else.

None are flattering representations of women. Kirby's portrayal of women wasn't as good as Romita's
Nowhere near as good--not even in the same universe.
Ditko's women were often bizarre in appearance, lacking the visual appeal necessary for say, non-costumed female characters.

Well at least Sersi looks good... next to pigs.

I think Kirby's female super-hero characters tended to be pretty cute, noticebly more so than his non-costumed supporting female characters. Sue, Crystal, Medusa and Sif all looked good to me. I liked how Ditko drew Betty, Liz and Clea, but his other female characters were pretty uneven, and his artistic quirks (prominent eyebrows, exaggerated facial expressions) tended to detract a bit from their attractiveness. Drawing pretty girls wasn't either man's big strong point as an artist though. In my opinion, that was the most noticeable area where Don Heck was better than them out of the early main three Marvel artists, and then when Romita, Colan and Buscema arrived, the women of Marvel got a lot sexier.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Indeed. I tend to like the curvy ladies, and I think those Barda & co. pictures are quite nice.

Barda's a little on the muscular side of things.

Barda's a little on the muscular side of things. Nothing wrong with that. Ray Hollit, aka Zap, of American Gladiators, was a stunningly beautiful woman, if a little on the muscular side. She also appeared in Blake Edwards' Skin Deep, with John Ritter. Besides , Barda was heavily inspired, in terms of personality and interplay, by Roz Kirby... In her own words, Roz said Jack liked voluptuous women and Barda is also a sci-fi Amazon or Valkyrie. Physically, Barda was based on Lianie Kazan... Specifically, a layout of her in Playboy.

I've said before and I'll say it again: most of Kirby's characters look doughy cavemen. Of course, it got worse the later it was in his career.

Kirby was the genius artist that created the entire language of superhero layouts. If you want photo realistic rendering, look at Neal Adams and Alex Ross. The years he was doing the Fourth World books he was in his mid to later 50's. We have to agree to disagree.

Every other comic creator who has almost 100 issues (and counting) of a posthumous quarterly magazine dedicated exclusively to their work, please stand up.
Love or hate his work, you cannot deny its impact on both the industry and the hobby.

Very much so; Ditko's Gwen was so distorted in appearance, with a high-rising forehead rivaling The Leader. Indeed. Undoubtedly--more realistic overall. I've said before and I'll say it again: most of Kirby's characters look doughy cavemen. Of course, it got worse the later it was in his career. I tend to agree where Kirby's women were concerned; even back in his time at Archie or DC, his leaning toward wide-faced women was evident, and rarely did he seek differences in appearance like women in reality.
