I’ll have a look at some interior pages, but that could well be it, most probably. Thank you. Make sure you keep an eye open for Captain Barracuda looking through a periscope using the eye with an eyepatch on it.

Does anyone have an opinion on the best work that John Severin penciled outside of the EC war comics? I'd like to read more of his stuff.

Some of my favorite is his team up with his sis Marie on Kull.

His work for Cracked magazine in the 1970's is pretty top notch too, and much more accessible.

I don't think I've ever seen a bad job by Severin, as a penciller or inker. Like Kubert, whenever I see his work, I have to ask myself why he's not one of my favorites.
However, I'm not a fan of his EC work inked by Elder.

Yeah; I was going to say his Westerns, including the ones he did at Charlton. That and his war comics stuff, from Savage Tales V2, The Losers, and others.

However, I'm not a fan of his EC work inked by Elder. I think it is down to the fact that he was often a better artist than some of the writers with whom he was paired.

I remember the original version of Green Arrow was rich, but did he ever have a job ? As Ollie Queen he had an apartment during the Neal Adams run , how did he pay the rent ?

Some of my favorite is his team up with his sis Marie on Kull. This is my favourite but was he mainly inking Marie's pencils in this case? As a penciller himself I'm not so sure I've seen enough to pick a best - he was really strong on westerns and war comics but both those genres can feel a little monotonous to my eyes, especially over time. Maybe I'd have to go with some of the solo art he did in Creepy or Eerie, not that I've seen all that much of it.

He was in the Bruce Wayne Idle Playboy Club (Bruce Wayne, Founder) for decades, but he lost his fortune to a guy named John DeLeon (Ponce's brother?) as related in JLA 75 (1969) and briefly mentioned in DC Superstars 17 (1977). Not sure what he did to get by after that. Mooched off of Black Canary maybe.

(This was during his run as a backup feature in Detective Comics.)
After moving to Seattle, he worked for Dinah in her store (the brilliantly named Sherwood Florist), mostly as a delivery driver.

I would say his 80's work for Cracked was equally great.

Some of my favorite is his team up with his sis Marie on Kull. I just read the KULL omnibus, and their team-up art has to be some of the most beautiful Marvel ever produced.
