I kept this off my DCBS list, so I wouldn't have to wait... waiting until today (rather than grabbing it yesterday) nearly killed me as it was.
Wow. THAT is how you end a series. Closure. some serious bits. Some fun bits. Plenty of room to tell untold tales later, but without the feeling you missed stuff.
Damn, I'm gonna miss this book.

During the past few months I was able to get my hands on all previous 149 issues in tradebooks from my library system. It was an immensely enjoyable read. Yes, the first 75 issues with its story arc was superior to what followed but still it was a solid run. And watching Buckingham's art style get more and more Kirbyesque was a treat as well
When the final GN hits the library, I'll be there

Picked this up at the LCS on Wednesday but didn't have a chance to start reading it until last night. Only got through about the first half of the book (the entire main story and a few of the "Last Story of" pieces), and my feeling is that it was a good read, but that it also was time to go. The first 75 issues were just pure storytelling magic, and while the next 74 issues were rarely up to that standard, they were still better than most of what was being put out every month. This brought everything to a close, even though there were obviously more stories that could be told, and gave a definitive ending to the main story, which is all I think we could ask for.

I read #150 yesterday. I was sad to see it end but I guess all things do.
I will never forget how good those first 75 issues were, especially say issues, 20-55. Really some of the best comic book story telling I have experienced.
The book remained solid up to #100 before I started to grow tired of the story lines. I did not give one dot for the Babes in Toyland story nor Bumpkin's adventures in Oz.
And then it ended. Some of the magic was back for this issue. It was nice to see some of the minor characters matriculate back to the homelands and King Cole sort things out in Fabletown for sure.
What is kind of lost at this point though is that in 2004, 2005, 2006, each issue of Fables was a momentous event. I could barely wait until the next issue came out.
I hope I get that kind of reading experience again but if Fables ends up being the last great, all-time classic series I end up reading then I would be okay with that.

I have mixed feelings. I was underwhelmed by the finale, but I don't know what else I would have wanted. I felt the series started to get a bit of its magic back in the last arc or two leading up to the grand battle, but I honestly thought the idea of the battle was forced and out of nowhere. Then, the way it just fizzled out was anticlimactic, but at the same time I am glad they didn't kill off a bunch of characters just to do so. Some of the Last Of stories were cool, but overall very little felt vital. It was reasonably enjoyable, but yeah, it was time to put this one out to pasture.

I read Fables the same way, and agonize over the weeks I have to wait for someone to bring back the trade that's next in the series! It's true that Buckingham's art is more Kirbyish as time goes by; it reminds me of Steve Rude's stuff. Which is, naturally enough, a compliment!

I think if the story was to continue, it was going to have to go away from our world, and more into the homelands... honestly, the set up after the finale could easily have been a set up for a new series. I would quite happily read about Connor Wolf's adventures, or the King Cole's school for magic in our world, or Briar Rose's road trip, whatever Fly does, etc.

They certainly left it open for someone to pick those up either in a new series, as minis, etc.
