Patrick Osborne, who won an Oscar for his animated short “Feast” in 2014, has been tapped by Paramount to helm an adaptation of Paul Pope’s award-winning Battling Boy graphic novel, which is published by First Second. Paramount has been working on an adaptation of Battling Boy since the first installments of the comic appeared in 2008, and the project has already gone through two sets of writers. Meanwhile the first volume of the collected Battling Boy comics was published by First Second in 2013 and won the 2014 Eisner Award for the “Best Publication for Teens”. According to The Tracking Board, which broke the story indicating that the Battling Boy project is back on track, Paramount is still not satisfied with the script for Battling Boy and is looking for a new writer to work with Osborne to add “a more comedic tone,” and more of a “punk rock vibe.” But at least the project is back on the front burner again, though don’t expect it to go into production soon, Osborne, who worked as an animator on a number of major films like Wreck-It Ralph, is committed to direct an adaptation of Noelle Stevenson’s Nimona first.
