I've heard this category before about people: You're either an Eagles person or a Fleetwood Mac person. Curious to hear if that is true. There is certainly a category of rock fan that disdains both.

Hi Everyone! I used to post on CBR, almost exclusively in the classic comics forum, but I never posted much. I'm a french Canadian, so that's why you might notice a few errors here an there (although my wife is anglophone and she tries to correct me all the time). I started reading Bandes Dessinées (Tintin, Blueberry, Gotlib, Tuniques Bleues,Sammy, etc..) When I was really young and did so until I moved to the Gatineau/Ottawa area 8 years ago. I was originally from Québec City and Comics are (or were) not that common there, as it is mostly a french city. First comic I bought I think was X-Men Alpha in 1995 when I was taking sailing class in Mississauga, Ontario for a summer in 1995. Then, the next I bought was New Avengers 27 8 years ago when I moved here (bought it for the amazing cover. Since then, I've accumulated a ton of comics. I love everything. Super-Heros, Slice of Life, heroic Fantasy, humour, history, etc. etc.
When you read French BD, there's not a lot of super-heroes in there, so I was exposed to a ton of stuff when I was younger. I own approximately 1000 BD, 400 tpb/hc, and 6000-7000 thousands comics, not counting the 11 long boxes I bought last monday and hadn't have time to go through.
I love reading everything on this forum, even if I don't participate that much because I can't express my ideas/opinions as well as I wanted to and I don't know "classic" comics as much as you guys!

The Eagles have traded the top spot for the highest selling album with Michael Jacksons Thriller. How could that many people be wrong?
Cmon guys, don't give in to hate, it only leads to the Dark side.

Please post frequently, Antoine. European comics are a weak spot for many of us, and I would love to be more educated on the subject. I was in Belgium recently and went to the comic book museum and was exposed to a wealth of great and famous artists I had just never heard of. I felt like such a novice. But so little gets translated into English.
And Dizzy D, a forum member from the Netherlands, has expressed that he would love people to talk European comics with! I'm sure Roquefort Raider, another Canadian, would agree.
I did pick up several comics in Belgium and Germany, in languages I don't understand, which I am intending to sit down and work my way through as best as I can muddle.

I discovered Simon and Garfunkel last summer and can't stop listening to them. I'm sure you like them! Am I getting on your good side now? You were never on my bad side, pal. Shortly after I got out of college, I received a phone call I will never forget. A good friend of mine had moved to New York to try to break into show biz and listed me as a personal reference on her resume. Thus one sunny fall afternoon, this exchange took place: "Hello?" "Hi, can I speak to Kurt please?" "This is Kurt." "Hi, Kurt, this is Paul Simon." "[scornful snort] Shyeah and I'm Art Garfunkel!" "[singing] I met my old lover on the street last night, she seemed so glad to see me I just smiled..." "Oh my god, Paul, I'm so sorry! I thought you were a friend of mine screwing with me!" "[chuckling] I get that a lot." We then proceeded to talk about my friend and why he should hire her. He didn't but, as it turned out, Art Garfunkel did. If nothing else, though, talking to him prepared me (a little) for the calls from Woody Allen and Jim Henson... Cei-U! I summon the namedropper!

Am I getting on your good side now? I got Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits and Doors 13 about the same time in 1980 or 1981, and I used to listened to them all the time.
As for The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac, I like them both. I saw Fleetwood Mac in concert in Indianapolis in, I think, 1986 or 1987. It was great! Mick Fleetwood's drum solo was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen at a concert.

Hi, everybody! This is Rob (short for Robert) Allen. I'm 57, and started reading comic books in the autumn of 1963. By 1965 I was a Marvel zombie. In 1969 I wandered away for a couple of years but came back in '71 and by '74 I had branched out from Marvel to DC, Charlton, Red Circle, Warren, Skywald, undergrounds and National Lampoon. In May 1978 I graduated from college and not coincidentally, bought my last new comics. Six weeks later I got married and later that year I started working in business software support, which is what I still do.
After a divorce, a cross-country move, and another marriage, I ended up in Oregon and looking for entertainment online, I found Tony Isabella's blog, which had a reference to Scott Shaw!'s Oddball Comics. I read the entire Oddball archive and only then ventured into the message board. From the Oddball board I quickly found Classics, and there I found my tribe. I've met a number of people IRL and I visit Kurt in Tacoma several times a year. I don't buy any current comics but I have been sampling lots of different things, like Bone and Love & Capes.
Other interesting tidbits:
- I was on Jeopardy! in 1994 (didn't win).
- My wife is ten years older than I am and has a doctorate in human sexuality.
- We haven't had a TV in over two years.
- The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are both OK, but the music I love is the Grateful Dead and jazz.
- my signature here conforms to the specifications for a usenet signature circa 1990.

Great to have you, Rob. One of those ultra-knowledgeable people that made classics such a great board.

Yay! More AWOLers! Nice to see Bert, Coldwater and Rob Allen join the party.
Rob, I'm sorry I missed you when I was in Portland over Easter Weekend. I should've e-mailed you that I was there. But I did drop about $70 at Excalibur. Can't take the comic fan out of me, even on vacation.
