Hi all, Just found this forum after a google search on Aftershock Comics. It seems like such a friendly and active site so I hope you won't mind my joining in the fun.
My real name is Darin Henry and I'm originally from Central Pennsylvania, though I relocated years ago to Los Angeles where I write TV sitcoms like Seinfeld, Futurama, and currently Disney's hit spy comedy KC Undercover. I've loved comics since before I could read and I recently started a comic book company called Sitcomics that mixes my day job with my hobby. I'll keep lurking in the forum and join in when I can.
bye...

Thank you everyone for the very warm welcome! My name is Marc (you can, of course, call me Marc or wonderlad) and I am indeed a former member from the Hall of Justice forums! Although as many on that board will attest to, I was seriously derelict in posting, and mainly joined in chat room night. I had a reputation of being quite wild and crazy - something I am, today, ambivalent about.
To share a little about myself, I am a very young 44 (smile), I started collecting comic books seriously in 1980 with DC Comics Presents #26 (The New Teen Titans Preview insert) and the subsequent series. These days I collect mainly trade paperpacks, hardcover reprints, and action figures. I like to call myself "One of Wonder Woman's Many Number One Fans"!! I live and work on the Peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area (midway between San Francisco and San Jose). I work in Development & Marketing for a nonprofit helping people with job training and placement. I have a degree from San Francisco State University in Industrial Arts and I love politics, history, sci-fi/fantasy, movies (especially horror films!!), etc. I am a single, gay, white male (half Mexican, quarter Italian, quarter Irish) and am politically very liberal, although not idealogical about it (although some from the Hall of Justice might disagree... smile) with a strong libertarian streak.
I am very glad to be here and I hope to post more in the forum than I used to over at the HOJ - although I need to get used to the surroundings here first.
I would be very glad to answer any questions any of you might have for me. I would also love to hear from any of my old buddies and acquaintances from over at the HOJ!!
Thank you again, Marc/wonderlad

Thank you again, Marc/wonderlad Thanks for sharing so much about yourself. The kickoff for the New Teen Titans was a great place to get started. I was a big fan of the series back in the day. Many years ago I had to sell off the 1st 10 issues (except #1, because he thought it wasn't in good enough condition) along with pretty much all of my early New X-Men issues and some key Daredevils to pay a vet bill. Gradually over the years I filled the NTT back in, except for #3 which I could never find. Finally, last month I found it at a small show in Milwaukee, at a reasonable price no less. So my run is complete, at least up to where the second series went off the rails around #100.
Wonder Woman also gets quite a bit of love around here, so hopefully you'll find the place comfortable and hang around with us for a long time to come.

The "Introduce Yourself" threadI'll start. My name is Chris. On CBR, I posted under coke & comics, then my full name, then Chris N. It seems we can change our name easily here, but I'll try to keep some combination of the words chris, coke, comics in my name to be identifiable. Also I should have a Blinky avatar. I've been with CBR since 2006. At first, I posted wherever, then just Comm, Classics, and Spider-Man forums. Then just Comm and Classics. Then just Classics. I'm a mathematician by trade. I drink a lot of Coke and read a lot of comics. Got about 40 thousand sitting in a storage unit somewhere while I travel the world. I'm just learning to read comics on a kindle and have mixed feelings about it. And yourself?

Hello, my name is Bob and I am newto this stuff. I haven't collected in almost 30 years. I have a question about a cover from "the adventures of Superman" #450. Instead of a bar code it says "don't miss superman no. 28 in 3 weeks. what is the difference between the 2 covers?

Instead of a bar code it says "don't miss superman no. 28 in 3 weeks. what is the difference between the 2 covers? Hi, Bob. A good thread for questions like this is: Ask a quick question here
The short answer is that there are direct market and newsstand editions of comics. Issues sent directly to specialty realtors and issues sent along magazine distribution lines to grocery stores and such. The latter needed the barcode. The former didn't, so they slipped some advertising into the space instead. I'll let another member provide more detail or correct any glaring errors in my explanation.

Instead of a bar code it says "don't miss superman no. 28 in 3 weeks. what is the difference between the 2 covers? The bar code version was meant to be sold on newsstands. The other was for comic shops via the direct distribution system Urghhh-Coked up n comics guy types faster than me

And if you're a fan of Superman from that time period, you might want to check out the Superman in the Post-Crisis Era review thread. In fact, Adventures of Superman #450 has already been covered there

Hi everyone,
I'm Ian, I drifted away from comics in my late teens and twenties but thanks to a re-read of Dark Knight Returns 5 or 6years ago, I'm back reading them again.
I tend to read half and half paper/digital as it makes things convenient on my tablet on the way to work on the train.
As it was when I was a kid, I'm into Batman, Justice League DC etc and occasionally dip into Marvel, favourite writers are Frank Miller, Ed Brubaker, Brian Azzurello, Mark Millar.
As you can see I'm all mostly mainstream! :-)
Over Christmas / New Year I've got through "The Man who Laughs", "Joker" and "Batman Deathblow" - my wife and kids left me alone just enough! Really enjoyed "The Man who Laughs", great second story too about the original Green Lantern.
Anyway, looking forwards to using the forum :-)
