Hi everyone, I'm Ian, I drifted away from comics in my late teens and twenties but thanks to a re-read of Dark Knight Returns 5 or 6years ago, I'm back reading them again. I tend to read half and half paper/digital as it makes things convenient on my tablet on the way to work on the train. As it was when I was a kid, I'm into Batman, Justice League DC etc and occasionally dip into Marvel, favourite writers are Frank Miller, Ed Brubaker, Brian Azzurello, Mark Millar. As you can see I'm all mostly mainstream! :-) Over Christmas / New Year I've got through "The Man who Laughs", "Joker" and "Batman Deathblow" - my wife and kids left me alone just enough! Really enjoyed "The Man who Laughs", great second story too about the original Green Lantern. Anyway, looking forwards to using the forum :-) It's going to be fun getting to know you, Ian, and man do I hope I can convert you to my "Frank Miller's contributions to Batman were waaaay over-rated" camp. Even if I can't, though, it will be a lot of fun having you along for the discussions As a shameless self-promotion, you might be interested in my Batman #300 and Up and Justice League in the Post-Crisis Era review threads. I go through the issues, one by one, discussing their importance as well as reviewing the stories (including Dark Knight Returns . Anyway, we're very glad to have you aboard. Make yourself at home!

Mazzuchelli's work was a masterpiece, and Miller's writing was a masterpiece, but I have issues with what Miller did to Batman in that story. Hello all, I grew up feeling out of place with my own generation as I found myself enjoying things from the past much more than their contemporaries, comics especially. For a while they had so much energy and excitement about them (especially 60's-80's Marvel), that it's almost rather disheartening to see that they've become nothing more than lifeless husks, void of any shred of creativity.
As you can probably tell by my avatar, I'm quite fond of the Star-Spangled Avenger Steve Rogers. During my youth, the 1990's movie and the 1960's motion comic cartoon were my favorites.
Anywho, enough rambling, hope you'll enjoy and tolerate my company....

I grew up in the '90s, and while I read the comics and listened to the music, I collected the comics of the previous decade and enjoyed them far more, and my music tastes have always been hopelessly stuck in the '60s through '80s. Yep. You'll find many kindred spirits here

Cool username, by the way. Is "batflunkie" another name for "Robin"?

Welcome batflunkie!
As you can see, we all love comics, but I would particularly agree with the "lifeless husks" statement. I still read from the Big Two, but nearly as much as I used to, and quite simply, the characters aren't the same, in large part, because of more story directives from editors than previously and because teams don't stay on titles as long as they used to.
BTW, how did you find our little soiree ?

Cool username, by the way. Is "batflunkie" another name for "Robin"? No, actually it started off as "batfink" (as in the 60's cartoon lampooning the live action Batman tv show) and then slowly evolved into "batflunkie" BTW, how did you find our little soiree ? Would you believe just a casual google search for "classic comics forum"? I'm already a member of another comic book forum, who I won't name, but the majority of the board only seems interested in blind fanboysm and market speculation to the point where I'm honestly growing rather tired of it. I didn't come into this hobby for profit nor to pointlessly fight verbal wars on the internet, I got into it because of my love of the written word and a nicely drawn picture or two

Hey guys! I'm Hayden, I'm a professional writer by trade, but in my free time, I'm a huge computer nerd. 26 years old.
I mostly joined because I'm really trying to get involved with comic book communities so that I can learn as much as possible. My wife's father passed away and we are hoping to sell off his old comic collection (thousands, and thousands of them). He started it when he was a young kid, and continued on until he passed away.. And neither of us have a CLUE about any of this. There are no comic book communities in our nearby area, and although we do both enjoy comic books(for reading), we know nothing about their value and would prefer his collection to go to other collectors. So hopefully while here, I might be able to find some sort of community that can keep me educated and informed on everything that I'm trying to do lol
