Hey guys! I'm Hayden, I'm a professional writer by trade, but in my free time, I'm a huge computer nerd. 26 years old. I mostly joined because I'm really trying to get involved with comic book communities so that I can learn as much as possible. My wife's father passed away and we are hoping to sell off his old comic collection (thousands, and thousands of them). He started it when he was a young kid, and continued on until he passed away.. And neither of us have a CLUE about any of this. There are no comic book communities in our nearby area, and although we do both enjoy comic books(for reading), we know nothing about their value and would prefer his collection to go to other collectors. So hopefully while here, I might be able to find some sort of community that can keep me educated and informed on everything that I'm trying to do lol Welcome to CCF Hayden. We'll be glad to help you identify what you've got, but we aren't equipped to be able to give you value estimates on your comics. One resource many of us use is to go to Ebay and search for individual issues then check what completed sales have gone for. That will give you a ballpark idea what the comics are actually selling for, though of course condition will play a huge factor. You can also try giving some of them a read. Who knows, maybe you'll like them.

Well, we certainly wouldn't want to be responsible for any domestic violence. Do you know some of the titles and issue numbers?

Another resource if lonestar Comics (online as mycomicshop.com) linkYou can get a sense for what they sell for by a dealer, and if you go to the sell my comics section a glimpse of what they are buying and how much they would pay for it (with guidelines how to sell for them for everything form single issues to entire collections, plus how to consign to them for their auctions). I promise I don't work for them, but I have sold stuff to them before. It would give you both some of the info you needed and an option for selling the stuff when/if you are ready to. There are also a number of dealers who will travel to you to check out/buy collections if it is large enough (and has a lot of in demand books). They might not pay as much as if you pieced out the collection and sold it yourself online, but it would be a lot less work/time investment depending on your priorities. Welcome to the community! -M

Hi, I'm 38 and from the Dallas/Ft Worth area, originally from Puerto Rico. I've been collecting/reading English-language comics off and on since 1990, and these days I'm mainly interested in comics pre-1992. Obviously a Charlton fan, my favorite genres are superhero, horror and underground comics. Favorite characters are The Question, Blue Beetle (Ted Kord), Captain Atom, the late 80s Justice League, Hulk, Iron Man and Creeper. Fave artists: Steve Ditko, Dale Keown, Johnny Craig, Jack Davis, Stephen Bissette, Dave Gibbons. Writers: Alan Moore, Peter David, Al Feldstein, Harvey Kurtzman, Evan Dorkin, Dan Clowes.
I was a not-too-active member of the old forum on CBR, but I'm very glad to have found this new one. I took a long break from the old board and came back one day to find out it was mysteriously gone. Glad to be here!!

If you have familiarity with the Dan Garrett character, I'd love to tap your expertise.

I've read a few Dan Garrett stories in the past (Charlton reprints of stories published by Fox, I believe) and they were pretty awful. Which is not to say there may not be good DG stories out there, I just haven't had the chance to come across any. I also largely became a fan of the Ted Kord BB because of Ditko's stories.

Thanks, hondobrode. I used to visit the classic comics board on CBR, and recently felt like trying to find a board like that again. I googled "classic comics forum" and this board was the first result! Welcome The Question, You're in good company here and will probably find some similar interests on the boards here. Howdy!
I came across this board in connection with the creation of the new Usagi Yojimbo sub-forum. While I've been a fan of the terrific samurai bunny for a number of years, I've been reading comics since the late 70s/early 80s. So, perusing over the various topics and threads here, it's great to see such a devotion and love of classic series and titles, something that I've found hard to discover elsewhere on the Interweb.
I still read some current comics and titles, but I have great fondness for Bronze Age and 80s titles, even made it through the speculation and near-collapse of the 90s. I appreciate and enjoy the Silver Age but my knowledge and library of such material is limited at the moment.
Otherwise, this appears to be a great place to discuss legends and myths of yore, so I'm looking forward to hanging out and seeing what's going on.

I don't think I'll be giving away any big secrets when I say we were hoping that our new partnership with the Usagi Yojimbo Dojo would attract some of the sword-wielding rabbit's fans to check out the rest of the forum as well.
We hope you'll enjoy hanging out here. It really is a great group of people. And we'll discuss anything from old comics, new comics, TV, movies, and just life in general.
