Reading Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's run of Fantastic Four right now. On issue 29. Really cool stuff.

While I had always read Marvel and DC stuff I do remember taking notice of his Captain America when he returned to Marvel in '76, well a year or so later for me, there was just something that spoke to my 12 - 13 year old self. As I started to take notice of creators and art styles I noticed that more and more of the books I loved without knowing why were his...Kamandi, Cap, FF etc. However it wasnt until I started to draw and paint myself that I came to appreciate the talent he had. Simply put, I love the energy in all his work, everything is in motion, the people are real, they have a variety of faces and bodies and poses... and the ideas, like a "Doc" Smith Lensman novel there are ideas and creations littering every book that others could barely conceive. Jack did this multiple times per month, month after month, and we are better for it.
Happy Birthday Jack...Long Live the King

Somewhere in comic book Valhalla Jack Kirby is riding a giant red T-Rex to attend a banquet of the gods.

Thanks for reminding us @mrp of his legacy and his birthday of which he would be 101 if living today.

24 years after his death, and his star continues to rise with the acknowledgement of his creativity and genius. Truly the King of Comics forever.

I just finished writing my last review of his initial run of Captain America last night, which was issue #108 (technically #109 is the final issue, which is a retelling of Cap's origin framed within a conversation between Steve and Nick Fury, but I only intend to do a cursory lookover of it, as I really want to get to the Steranko issues.)
There's no denying the King was gifted with a pencil in his hands, and it's a shame he didn't get the credit he deserved, at least at the time, for creating the iconic looks of many of Marvel's biggest characters. He may not have been as flashy as Stan, but without Kirby's work, the MU would not have been as rich or vibrant as it turned out to be.
