She was my absolute favorite thing about Arrested Development.
Actually, she may have been the only thing I enjoyed about Arrested Development.

She was also incredible voicing Malory Archer.

Jessica Walter was absolutely terrifying as the stalker in Clint Eastwood's Play Misty for Me. I loved that she later turned to comedy, which she excelled at. Her appearance with husband Ron Silver on Gilbert Gotfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast was hysterical! She will be missed. Cei-U! I summon the downer! Her husband was Ron Leibman, who passed away in 2019. You might remember him from films like Hot Rock, Slaughterhouse Five, Norma Rae, Auto focus, Garden State and Zorro the Gay Blade. Surprised it hasn't been mentioned that Walter had a comic book connection, as Morgain Le Faye, in the 1978 Dr Strange pilot movie. Loved her in anything and saw a lot of her on tv, in the 70s and early 80s, including Columbo, McCloud, Trapper John MD, Wonder Woman (when they shifted to the 70s), Quincy and even an episode of Babylon 5. Yet another great actor who crossed over between film, tv and Broadway.

(...) Surprised it hasn't been mentioned that Walter had a comic book connection, as Morgain Le Faye, in the 1978 Dr Strange pilot movie. (...) And she also had another comic connection, as she appeared in an episode of the 1970s Wonder Woman.

In an odd piece of synchronicity, she appeared in an episode of Just Shoot Me, playing Eve Gallo, the ex-wife of Jack Gallo, who was played by George Segal.

You're right, thanks. Not the first time I've confused those two actors.

(...) I summon the brain fart!
Oh, man. No need to summon one - I find that they occur often enough unbidden.

R. I. P. Larry McMurtry. Pulitzer Prize winner for Lonesome Dove. Oscar winner for his screenplay for Brokeback Mountain. Oscar nominated for his screenplay for the adaptation of his novel The Last Picture Show. One of the great American authors. Lonesome Dove is a triumph.

McMurtry was more than just an author; he was a book lover. He had been a rare book scout in his college days and managed a bookstore in Houston. He opened Booked up, in Washington, DC (Georgetown, actually), with two partners, in 1970 ad opened another in 1988, in Archer City, TX. He continued as business became bad, with the rise of internet selling. In 2012, he held a mass auction, selling by the shelf, his book collection, in an epic event for book lovers. Those of us who worked in the book trade loved McMurty; not just because he was one of the best authors in American Literature; but, because he was one of us.

It's a sad day for the book world. beloved children's author, Beverly Cleary, has died at age 104. Cleary was the creator of such characters as Ralph Mouse, Henry Huggins, and her most popular, Ramona Quimby. Cleary wrote about real children, contemporary kids, in an era when most children's stories were about English or pioneer children, or fairy tales and similar fare. Henry Huggins was her first and was inspired by the children she knew, as a Portland children's librarian. Her books delighted generations of kids, with funny and entertaining adventures of real characters

I enjoyed Henry Huggins books when I was at the right age. She's a beloved local celebrity here in Portland. The elementary school in her old neighborhood was renamed Beverly Cleary School in 2008. Her characters are immortalized in the Beverly Cleary Sculpture Garden in Grant Park. Left to right are Ribsy the dog, Ramona Quimby and Henry Huggins:

Beverly Cleary wrote some wonderful books. Whenever I see this cover, I'm instantly transported to 1973.

G Gordon Liddy has died, at 90. One of the chief architects of the Watergate break-in, he was convicted of conspiracy, burglary and illegal wiretapping and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He served just over 4 years, after President Carter commuted his sentence. From there, he went on to appearances in things like Miami Vice and conservative talk shows and radio.
