RIP Neal Adams, who was 80. Reports are he passed yesterday from complications from sepsis. I started a tribute thread to him in the classics section if folks want to celebrate his life and career.

Bama definitely gave me my first mental picture of Doc Savage, reinforced by the Marvel comics that followed his version. But when I read a reproduction of the first Doc Savage story 10 or 15 years back, it had the original cover and that fit so well with the description in the book that I now have a kind of dual image in my mind: that one and Bama's. I'm very near to completing my run of the Bantam Doc Savage novels. This sad news will probably spur me to haul out my list and start tracking down some of the ones I'm still missing.
R.I.P. Mr. Bama.
Damn, too bad we didn't share a forum several years ago when I Ebayed my collection. I had full runs of the black single novels and white double novels, and was only missing a few of the 4-5 book omnibuseses. That's actually what spurred me to sell--I was looking to fill out my missing omnibus volumes and saw they were going for $40-50 each, which blew my mind. I decided that while I had no intention of paying that much for the books, I would happily accept that much for mine. The singles were only going for $2-3 each, so I sold them as a complete set for about $200+some. The white doubles were the ridiculous ones, fetching me a bit over $100 for one of them, $80 for another, and roughly omnibus money or higher for the rest.
Amazing what you can have of value and not know it.

Saw that. I only got into his solo work in the 2000s, on the recommendation of Paul McEnery on the old CBR, but I've felt myself a fan since then, though I haven't kept up up with wht he'd been doing the last few years..

I thought the same thing. Today's sunset by George Perez. Tomorrows sunrise by Neal Adams.

George Perez died yesterday. RIP. Awww.....@#$%! Guess they needed someone who could draw the Heavenly Hosts on a 3 x 5 cards, with every cloud whisp. The thing is he stopped working long ago. I wonder why the big names of the Bronze Age stopped working so early, Adams was older, and was still working just a year ago.

Well, Perez developed eye problems, related to his diabetes and eventual pancreatic cancer.
