I'm seeing multiple references to Paul Coker having passed away. In addition to being one of "the usual gang of idiots" at Mad, Coker was a long-time character designers for Rankin-Bass. You may not have known Mr. Coker's name, but you certainly knew the characters he helped design, including Frosty the Snowman and the Miser Brothers. R.I.P.

RIP to British actor & singer Bernard Cribbins, probably best known on this side of the pond for Doctor Who (the Peter Cushing movies and the revived tv series) and The Fawlty Towers episode, "The Hotel Inspectors." Cribbins was a long time character actor and appeared in Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 AD (the second Peter Cushing Doctor Who movie) and later appeared during David Tennant's run, as well as shows like Fawlty Towers, Worzel Gummidge, Last of the Summer Wine, Jackanory, Coronation Street, and his own ITV series, Cribbins. He appeared in films like Casino Royale (the spoof), Mouse on the Moon, Dunkirk (1958), World of Suzy Wong, several Carry On films, Don't Raise the Bridge, Lower the River and The Railway Children. Cribbins was also noted for several novelty songs, like "Right Said Fred," "The Hole in the Ground," and "Gossip Calypso." I didn't know it until I just saw it; but, he served in the Parachute regiment, in Palestine, during the period just before the partitioning and the recognition of Israel. Cribbins was also noted for narration and voice work and narrated the popular children's series The Wombles, and voiced The Water Rat in The Wind and The Willows, for BBC Radio. So long to a great actor.... Really sad to hear about Bernard Cribbins. To people of my generation and slightly older, he was a fixture of our childhood TV and film. Especially as the voice of The Wombles, a star in Dr Who, Fawlty Towers, and The Railway Children, and as a presenter on Jackanory. His song "Right Said Fred (have a cup of tea then)" has entered the English vernacular -- it's not uncommon to hear the phrase even in 2022. We had some handymen working round ours a few weeks back and one of them sang the relevant lines of that song when I brought them out a cup of tea. Cribbins was a really great actor and someone who always seemed like a genuinely nice bloke. He'll be sadly missed.

Aboriginal Australian musician Archie Roach has passed away following a long illness. He was a singer, songwriter, guitarist, a Gunditjmara and Bundjalung elder and a campaigner for the rights of Indigenous Australians. Roach first became known for the song "Took the Children Away", which featured on his debut solo album, Charcoal Lane, in 1990. He toured around the globe, headlining and opening shows for Joan Armatrading, Bob Dylan, Billy Bragg, Tracy Chapman, Suzanne Vega and Patti Smith. Like so many Indigenous Australians, Roach died far too young, being only 66. R.I.P. Archie Roach.

Actor/comedian/producer/Howard Stern guest and Marvel Comics writer Ron Zimmerman has passed away. In the comic world, he wrote Spider-Man": Get Kraven and Ultimate Adventures; but, is probably best known for the infamous Rawhide Kid comic, from the Max line.

Nichelle Nicholls dead at 89. Oh, what a shame. I loved her as Lieutenant Uhura. She was beautiful, sexy, and a trailblazing and influential African American actress. And of course she made Uhura a great, great character. Very sad news.
