Also in music, RIP to Sam Gooden (age 87), co-founder and singer for the soul group The Impressions for all 60 years of their existence. The Impressions were also the launching pad for Curtis Mayfield, and their sound was a significant influence on Bob Marley and the Wailers.

Love the sound of Judith Durham's voice. I remember Georgie Girl being a favourite song of mine as a very small kid in the 1960s.

Just saw the news that veteran actor Roger Mosley died as a result of injuries from a car crash. He was 83. He appeared in dozens of TV shows and films, usually in supporting roles, from the 1970s through the 1990s, but I think many, like me, most associate him with the character of helicopter pilot TC Calvin in Magnum PI (which, back in the day, was my favorite show bar none). RIP, TC.

R. I. P. Pulitzer Prize winning historian David McCullough. McCullough won Pulitzers for his bios of John Adams and Harry Truman. A fabulous writer who made history accessible. John Adams is just a great biography of a very complex man.

John Adams is just a great biography of a very complex man. I watched the HBO series John Adams, based on McCullough's book, a few months ago. Fascinating biography on a very much overlooked American historical figure. The disc came with a featurette on McCullough himself. A man who loved researching history and making it a compelling read. If I recall correctly, he had a long running radio show on NPR

RIP to Olivia Newton-John, who passed this morning at age 73. She was ubiquitous in pop culture for those of us who grew up in the 70s into the early 80s and has been a force in pop culture and an inspiration to many during her entire lifetime.

Rest in peace Olivia, as coincidence would have it, today at work I had 'Hopelessly Devoted to You' pop into my head and then went over her other singles and thought of how catchy they were. Breast cancer's a terrible disease that still claims far too many victims. Thoughts and prayers to the loved ones who must go on without her.

Well, geez, this week is off to a brutal start. I guess it didn't want to lose any momentum from last week. Ugh.

I was never much of an Olivia Newton John fan, but mrp is right about her ubiquity on record and on screen in the late 70s and early 80s. Sad news for her family and fans. She always seemed like a nice lady.

She always seemed like a nice lady. She did a lot of charity work. After she was diagnosed with breast cancer she set up the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute, which is now one of Australia's leading cancer research institutions. She also did a lot of humanitarian and environmental work, including doing concerts for UNICEF, being a Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nations Environment Programme, and president of the Isle of Man Basking Shark Society, amongst many other good works.
She truly was one of the angels.
