Loved Robbie, going waaaay back. I don't recall if I noticed him in Flash Gordon (he is at the airport, early on, but barely in the scene; but, I definitely did in Krull, then MTV brought over the Young Ones and The Comic Strip Presents, both of which he had guest and regular roles. Enjoyed Nuns on the Run, thought The Pope Must Die was okay (haven't seen the Comic Strip Presents version), loved his Bond character. The one thing I have meant to catch and have yet to do so was Cracker. All I have seen is the Comic Relief special he did, Prime Cracker, with Helen Mirren as her Jane Tennison character, meeting his character.

Also passing away was actor Jan Rabson. Primarily a voice actor, he did do some live acting and was a member of The Mighty Carson Art Players, on the Tonight Show. he was a prominant voice actor for anime dubbing and voiced Tetsuo, in the original Streamline dubbing of Akira, as well as Hooty & Dr Brighthead, in the G-Force Guardians of Space version of Gatchaman. He did voicework in the Pixar films, portrayed Rod Serling on Growing Pains and Just The Ten of Us, and voiced Leisure Suit Larry, for some of the later computer games.

And it is impossible for me to imagine anyone else as Rubeus Hagrid.

I enjoyed my first encounter with Coltrane, his flashback cameo in Branagh's Henry V (1989).

RIP to Gemini 4 and Apollo 9 Astronaut Jim McDivitt... McDivitt was a Korean War veteran and test pilot, in the USAF, when he was selected for Astronaut Group 2, in 1962. He was the command pilot for Gemini 4, where Ed White performed the first US space walk. The mission also included a failed rendezvous with the spent Titan II upper stage, due to a mix of problems, including the Titan II stage venting propellent, which kept pushing it away, and a lack of practical knowledge about orbital mechanics, by NASA. He was commander for Apollo 9, which tested the Lunar Excursion Module in Earth orbit, along with astronauts Dave Scott and Rusty Schweikert. He went on to become Manager of Lunar Landing Operations, which planned the lunar exploration missions. He was then made Program Manager for Apollo, where he oversaw Apollo 12-16, before resigning after a disagreement with Chris Kraft, over the selection of Gene Cernan to command Apollo 17, without consulting McDivitt. He retired from the USAF as a Brigadier General and then had a career as corporate executive for Consumers Power Company, Pullman Inc, and Rockwell International. McDivitt appeared as himself in the Brady Bunch episode, "Out of This World."

Rockabilly revival artist Robert Gordon has passed at 75. Gordon was active in the NYC punk scene in the 70s and was a big influence on the rockabilly revival in the 80s. His work with Link Wray was just a delight.

One of my favorite bits, from Robert Gordon's guest appearance on SCTV.....
Always thought it odd that he was covering a Marshall Crenshaw song; but, whatever...

RIP to Chicago Cardinals legend Charley Trippi, only the second NFL Hall of Famer to reach 100 years old. He's also the only one to have amassed over 1000 yards passing, running, and receiving, due to playing several positions in his career. He helped the 1947 Chicago Cardinals win what is still their last NFL Championship, which was played at Comiskey Park.

Boola Boola! He was also a helluva baseball player and could have played in the majors had he wanted. (He was Georgia's baseball coach for a few seasons, IIRC.) RIP to one of the true, if now nearly forgotten, greats of the game.

'Fraid that's way before my time, sorry. But I live in Chicago, and his passing is news here.

RIP to one of the true, if now nearly forgotten, greats of the game. I'm certainly familiar with the Chicago Cardinals, but they'd moved to St. Louis 8 years before I was born. If asked to name any players I'd come up with Ernie Nevers, Night Train Lane and maybe remember that Jim Thorpe played for them for a season. But RIP, Mr. Trippi.
