R.I.P. to acclaimed mezzo-soprano and Emmy-winning TV star Joanna Simon, who lost her battle with cancer on Wednesday; as well as her sister Lucy, who also passed from cancer on Thursday. And deep condolences to Carly Simon, who had two siblings on Tuesday and none on Friday. Just terrible.

RIP to actor and comedian Leslie Jordan.... The Southern actor and comedian was probably best known for playing Beverly Leslie, rival to Karen Walker, on Will & Grace. He grew up in Chattanooga, TN and lost his father, at age 11, in a plane crash. He was openly gay and came to Hollywood, in 1982, appearing on shows like The Fall Guy, Caroline in the City, Murphy Brown, and Star Trek Voyager. He struggled with drug and alcohol abuse in his career and once shared a jail cell with Robert Downey Jr and later worked with him on an episode of Ally McBeal, where Downey tried to recall where they had met before. He specialized in sassy Southerners, gay or straight and appeared in recent years in American Horror Show, The Cool Kids and Call Me Kat. He apparently had what officials called a "medical episode" and lost control of his car, crashing headlong into a building. He was a great actor and funny comedian and will be missed.

We heard about this one yesterday. This one hurts. He was such a positive, joyful man. RIP Mr. Jordan.

RIP to director/producer/lyricist Jules Bass, the other half of the Rankin-Bass team, that produced all of the classic holiday specials, like Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Year Without a Santa Claus, The Little Drummer Boy and others. Rankin-Bass also dabbled in line animation and produced a few live action movies, as well. The 80s syndicated series Thundercats and Silverhawks were theirs, as well. Rankin-Bass produced everything from the holiday stop motion specials, the Tolkien animated adaptations of The Hobbit and The Return of the King, The Mad Monster Party, The Jackson 5 and Osmonds cartoons, King Kong Escapes (in conjunction with Toho), the King Kong animated series, The Festival of Family Classics literary adaptations (broadcast around holidays, in syndicated markets), the sci-fi movie The Last Dinosaur (with Richard Boone), Flight of Dragons and The Last Unicorn. If you are a late Boomer or Gen X, you know his work.

Rock 'n' roll icon and hellraiser Jerry Lee Lewis has died at 87. Yeah, saw the news earlier today. For me, it's another one of those cases when the news surprised me because I thought he had already died earlier.

For me, it's another one of those cases when the news surprised me because I thought he had already died earlier. Well, it was announced prematurely, at least a couple of days before, in yet another case of people rushing to be first to report it.

Yesterday an NPR newscaster concluded her report on Lewis' death by calling him "Jerry Lewis".
Technically accurate but completely wrong.

You beat me to it. But I’ll never forget his version of “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” Or his reunion after years of feuding with Steve Martin. Brings tears to my eyes every time.

Seriously though, I’d never heard of the reunion. Ah, oui, oui! With Dean Martin. On the telethon.
