Oscar winning production designer for Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark, Norman Reynolds, has passed at 89. His designs have definitely influenced popular culture ever since.

RIP to World Fantasy Award-winning writer Rachel Pollack. Her work, Godmother Night won that award and her works Unquenchable Fire and Temporary Agency were nominated for other awards (the former won the Arthur C Clarke Award. In more direct connection tot his board, she took over the writing of Doom Patrol, wen Grant Morrison left the series. She was noted for adding elements relating to menstruation, transsexuality and sexual identity. She was also a noted expert on the tarot and was often consulted by Neil Gaiman for use of it within his stories. She also a taught seminars for many years on the tarot and other subjects related to it though I would have liked to have seen her debate the subject with James Randi.

R.I.P. to cinematographer Bill Butler who has died at the age of 103. Butler was known for his work on The Conversation (1974), Jaws (1975), and three Rocky sequels. Butler also completed One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975) after Haskell Wexler was fired from the production, and was subsequently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

I recently posted celebrating his 102nd birthday, but have seen several industry folks reporting his passing today. -M R.I.P. 102 is a hell of a haul. If you get the chance read his biography by Mary-Lou Weisman with illustrations by Jaffee. It's an interesting read. His mother was...well she was something, taking he and his brothers from their father back to Lithuania. His father was able to bring the boys back to the U.S. Which is a very good thing as Lithuania was no place to be in the later '30s and the '40s.

Considering he didn't officially retire until he was 99, I'd call it a life well lived.

Jaffee was at least notable enough to get a mention on the public television over here this morning (can't remember the last time an American comic personality, excluding Stan Lee, got a mention on the news) so that is a sign of how respected he was.

Prolific mystery author Anne Perry, who was infamously outed as being Juliet Hulme, half of the "Heavenly Creatures" teenage murder duo, has died at 84.
