Marcel Gottlieb, better known as Gotlib, died this Sunday.
A giant in the field of bandes dessinées, he inspired an entire generation of cartoonists. His collaborations with René Goscinny, and most notably Les dingodossiers, was an exhilarating blend of slapstick, culture, physical humour and pure zaniness.
Gotlib was also a brilliant comic writer, whether it be as a solo creator (for his genre-defining Rubriques à brac) or for other artists such as Alexis.
To put things in perspective, it's as if a French-speaking Harvey Kurtzmann had died.

This is the first I heard of it. Return of the Living Dead is one of my favorite horror films too. I actually met Thom Mathews and Linnea Quigley from the movie in September at the Buffalo Comic Con. Had him sign my Friday the 13th T-shirt and she signed my Scream Queens Illustrated #1.

Between that hang-dog face and bugged out eyes, he was a visual treat, and had tremendous timing. They don't produce many actors like that.

I met most of the cast many years ago at a midnight screening of the film during an all night horror fest show at The original Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. I had them all sign my 45Grave "Partytime" 12" I'll have to get a pic of that so I can post it.

I didn't know Van Williams had been a volunteer fire fighter until I read an article about his death. He seemed to be an all around good guy--a great husband, father, and grandfather. Rest in peace, Van.

RIP Greg Lake, original member of King Crimson and co-founder of Emerson Lake & Palmer. He was 69. I'll have to spin some Brain Salad Surgery in his memory.
