In contrast to Liam Payne, classic actress/singer/dancer Mitzi Gaynor has passed away, at age 93. Best noted for her work in musicals, like South Pacific and Anything Goes. She was a big favorite of my parents and they got to see her show, live, many years ago. I recently saw her in Les Girls, in which she played the American member of a team of three dancers, along with Kay Kendall as an English performer and Taina Elg as as a French girl. Gene Kelly played their manager. One of my favourite 1950s musicals.

Hall of Famer and Legendary Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Fernando Valenzuela has passed away, at age 64. You name it, he won it! Not a Hall of Famer but a huge legend here in Los Angeles. El Toro brought a culture to the Dodgers that was unparalleled and remains huge to this day due to him. I was at his No Hitter Game in 1990 but seeing him throughout his career here, he was amazing.

Faux News is reporting that Ron Ely has passed away at age 86. I haven't found anything from an actual news source though.

Doc Tarzan is Eternal! It's a shame that Jai fell in with a bad crowd, though...

I remember watching the Ely Tarzan series as kid in the 70s. Sometimes my dad (who was farmer and so would be in and out of the house at odd tomes during he day) would join me and talk about watching the Johnny Weissmuller movies when he was a boy. I t was one of those odd bonding moments that has always stayed with me.
I have to admit though that I had not known Ron Ely was still alive until I heard of his death.

We had Tarzan, later, in syndication, as well as the Jungle Jim series; but, I recall seeing some of the Weismuller ones, as a kid (with Boy in them). Ely also starred in a tv pilot movie I caught, called The SEAL, about a former Navy SEAL, who was a troubleshooter-for-hire. It was the first time I had ever heard reference to the SEALs and it was several years before I could locate any information about them. The movie was decent, but it, apparently, didn't sell and no series followed. I have never come across footage from it, online or as a re-run. I also recall him taking over as host of the Miss America Pageant, after a scandal with Bert Parks.

Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead has died. He was 84. He survived a liver transplant in 1998 and both prostate and bladder cancer since then.
