Aw, sad news about Lesh. I like the Dead, and went to six of their concerts in the SF Bay Area (and one in Las Vegas) between ca. 1988 and 1992, and always had a great time. Here's a pic of Lesh from around that period: R.I.P., man.

Grammy Award-winning singer and voice of the Love Boat Theme, Jack Jones, has passed away, at 86. Not exactly my kind of music, but he had a great voice. He also appeared as himself on the sitcom, It's a Living, about a restaurant of singing waitresses, in Las Vegas. He also voiced the "Talk of the Town" commercials for the Chrysler New Yorker.
He also had hits with "The Impossible Dream," from The Man of La Mancha, as well as other pop standards and big band jazz material.

Just a little more about Phil Lesh - actually, just a like to a live performance of "Box of Rain," possibly the only Dead song in which he sang lead:
Pretty sure he performed this at one of the Dead concerts I'd attended.

Yeah, shame to hear about Phil Lesh. I listened to some Grateful Dead albums yesterday in tribute to him.

Major bummer: Teri Garr has died from complications of MS at 79. She, Tom Orzechowski, and I are all fellow residents of Lakewood, Ohio. I'd always hoped I'd pass her on the street one day...

Major bummer: Teri Garr has died from complications of MS at 79. Of the main cast of Young Frankenstein, that only leaves Gene Hackman and Monte Landis still with us.

R.I.P. Manuel "Guajiro" Mirabal. Just an outstanding trumpeter. Buena Vista Social Club was a revelation when it came out.

I remember hearing it played in a cd store, asking an employee what it was, and buying it on the spot. I have an Ibrahim ferrer cd that came out not too long afterwards, but I don't think I ever came across anything else directly related to it.

So long, Miss Lincoln.... I've been a fan since I was a kid. That must have been the first thing I saw her in, I imagine.

Artist, painter Greg Hildebrandt passed away today at 85. Sad. That Star Wars poster alone was a career work. He and Tim’s vision of Middle Earth is the one I see in my minds eye.
