DH solicitationGrant and Gulacy are teaming to resurrect the old Warren character from Eerie in a new mini from Dark Horse... first issue is due in shops Oct 21. I've only read a couple of Rook stories, but I have to say Gulacy art tempts me no matter what he is doing. There's a 7 page preview available at the site I linked for those curious. -M

If you want an even better look the first chapter was in Dark Horse Presents #14 which only came out a couple of weeks ago.

Aargh - "fake anatomy" OCD kicking in. Much as I like Gulacy's art, that hand in the foreground hoilding the pistol is terrible - there's no way that position works based on the anatomy of the hand, the line of the handle of the pistol and the weight of the gun

I'll take your word for it, but it looks totally wrong to me. The butt is resting on the back of the palm near the wrist, and the fingers aren't gripping it, so the only thing to hold it there is the finger through the trigger guard, which would mean all the weight of the gun was on that finger - and it just doesn't look that way in the picture: all the apparent weight is on the butt and there doesn't appear to be enough room between the butt and his hand for a 3d thumb to be wrapped around the butt

I wish Budd Lewis were still around to see this.

I think in hindsight the time machine now seems reminiscent of the Tardis. The Eerie reprint series is up to the first Rook stories so I would imagine this is going to come out with Dark Horse probably putting out collections of the classic Rook stories.

What's crazy is despite ever having read a Rook story that I can remember, I recently wondered if I had somehow missed someone doing something with The Rook.
Like mrp, I'm a sucker for Gulacy and will probably be getting this.
earl is probably correct as well : DH will leverage this into reprint collections.
Forgot to mention Steven Grant as well. Solid dependable stories. Good guy and I miss his old column in CBR.

Have you guys read this yet? I'd never even heard of the Rook before this, so I don't know the back-story, but I read this and thought it was kind of.... well, terrible, to be honest. Very, very overwritten on the top of a pretty hackneyed plot. Gulacy's art was decent, though still with some panels where hand-held weapons were 2 dimensional (ie no thickness to them), which I continue to find jarring. Can't help thinking that Gulacy's art works much better in B&W (which is how I saw all his MoKF issues, back in the day, in Brit reprints)

I'll probably wait for the trade but as a fan of Gulacy's work I'm looking forward to it. I never followed the Rook series back in the day, so I have no feelings about the character one way or the other.
OK, that's not quite true - I remember thinking at the time it was a bit of a Han Solo clone plus time-travel, which didn't interest me much then or now, but it doesn't really turn me off either.
