Great news. Is there a French edition of his collected works currently in print, I wonder? Can't say there is an omnibus-style collection, but as far as I know most of the Blueberry books can always be found in bookstores and the Metal Hurlant material is often reprinted. As it should be! Ze Moebius iz ze cat's pyjama, oui? Bien sûr, yeah, but it's a bit confusing - it would be nice if there was a series in French, by a single publisher, so you'd have an idea that you were getting some kind of complete overview of his work. Hold on, now I take the trouble to click the original link, I see that someone in the Bleeding Cool talk-back said the Dark Horse series might be based on a "Moebius Library" that's already out in Europe. Didn't notice anything like that in my initial searches at Renaud-Bray or amazon.fr but maybe I just overlooked it.

I guess I'm spoiled, but as a kid, Giraud used to live in the same small town I did, an dhe came to our class a few times to draw for us, like a showcase. He did a little drawing to all of us who requested it and I still have mine. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I wish he did get to draw stories with great innovative writers. The original Black Incal was fun to read, but not that special on the writing IMHO. That's a great story - around what year would that have been if you don't mind me asking? yes, it's true that a lot of his work was story-boards for films and things like that - or set and costume designs; and even much of the solo comics work I've seen is often rather enigmatic, with minimal dialogue or narration, and the artwork itself is the main attraction. Re The Incal: you're not an admirer of Jodorowsky's work?

Well, that would have been around 87-90 I believe Jodorowsky, let's say I think he's a total fraud. He's a great publicist, I'll give you that. I remember liking Santa Sangre, though. But most of his movies seem pointless nowadays, just an excuse to film cool stuff with no backbone. As I have some chiliean artist friends in Paris and that community isn't that big, I got to meet hhim once at a diner party. He is charming and like being the center of the attention, but oftenly, he's bluffing his way to stay afloat in every conversation. I think his comics are the same.
