apparently it's been in the works since 2009 as part of HAsbro's efforts to get their toy properties into movies and had a draft written in 2011 but is getting a new screenplay and new writer. Hopefully the do something better than Battleship!
Bad Robot (which I believe is JJ Abrams production company) is the the one developing the movie.
