They were released and distributed as an insert in Sunday newspapers, the first page was the cover for those inserts, so yes. -M Exactly, it's not a comic book cover, it's the first page of an insert. Most Spirit stories started out by a splash page.

“For those of you new to The Spirit, he premiered in the publishing field with no advance publicity in the newspaper trade, on June 2, 1940 as part of a special free Comic Book Section (commonly known as The Spirit Section) insert of Sunday newspapers across North America.” -- thecomicsdetective.blogspot.com/2013/04/thats-spirit.html“After a few weeks, Eisner tried a single-page opening that served several functions. First and foremost, it acted as a cover for The Weekly Comic Book, giving the insert the feeling of a magazine independent of the other sections of the newspaper.” Michael Schumacher, Will Eisner A Dreamer’s Life in Comics, p. 78 [Eisner’s] high point was The Spirit, a comic book section created as a Sunday supplement for newspapers.” Jules Feiffer, The Great Comic Book Heroes, p. 35 (BF mine)

Exactly : "acted as" & "giving the felling". Therefore it just isn't a comic book cover, it just asts as and gives the feeling... But seriously, I really don't care, if you guys want to go for it, it'll just give us more options for future contests CCF's benghazi's hearing are open, hahaha!

To act means to perform a specific function, e.g. "The cover of Secret Six #1 also acted as the splash page." And if you don't care, then please save the semantics for something you do care about.

Semantics are awesome, usefull and fun, and I care about them Thank you for the instructions though, even if I still disagree that the splash page was a comic book cover. AI agree it might have acted as a cover, but so did many record covers acting as comic book covers then. Snap... I just became an old curmudgeon, hehe
