Can you believe it's only been two months since The Classic Comics Forum went live?
We've come a very long way since then, with an average of 55 users visiting the site per day, as well as an average of 250 guests. Today, we blew those numbers out of the water, presumably due to our new facebook presence.
At any rate, the purpose of this update is to inform you that I've FINALLY gotten everything done that I intended to do with this site. This is the final product for the moment, though, inevitably, things will evolve as necessary.
So what's new as of today:
1. The new front page.
Thanks so much to Jasoomian for taking the time to listen to our input and design the new frontpage in response. It looks amazing and makes a great first impression to all newcomers to the site, as well as providing a great one-stop resource for existing members when they check in each day. If you have a moment, please send Jasoomian a pm to thank him for his extraordinary efforts!
2. The new facebook page.
This is big. Really big. And the reason is that it allows us to spread the word about the CCF more effectively than ever. While it's a useful way to get updates on what's happening in the forum, it's more importantly a tool with which you can easily share interesting posts with friends and groups you may belong to in order to keep attracting new blood to the site.
The goal isn't for The CCF to become some enormous anonymous community that loses its personality as a result, but rather to have a slow, steady influx of new members so that the site doesn't lose its vitality over time.
PLEASE follow The CCF facebook page and share a link or two. Spread the love.
3. Google search results.
I grabbed a strange computer today and did a google search for "classic comics discussion" and similar search queries, and the results were promising. While The CCF was the third search result each time, the first two linked to the CBR Independent Forum and the CBR mainpage. Essentially, neither really give the searcher what he/she asked for. In short, we're in a very good place with Google, and our new front page will help to attract a surfer's attention when they click here to see if our site has more of what they are looking for.
4. The main banner
I took the time to redo this thing from scratch and came up with a much cleaner look. Ages ago, we discussed the idea of rotating the banner regularly, but when I started doing this manually, I quickly realized that it wasn't the way that I wanted to go. A single, simple banner provides a constant look and identity for the site. I think we need that. We got a lot of great banner submissions from users, and I'm still tempted to throw them up infrequently, but I think ol' Mr. Thor has become our mascot and masthead for the time being.
Thanks, everyone, for continuing to make this community what it is. Please also continue to spread the word about this place, to invite (and reinvite) your friends to join, and to follow on facebook and share posts there, as well. We've got a lot of activity right now, but that can dry up in a year or three. Maintaining a steady flow of new users is critical to this community's longevity.
Peace!
