So, I read the preview for Ultimates #1... two very disturbing things.
1) They talk about ISO-8. For those that don't know, ISO-8 is a magic element that 'enhances abilities and powers'.. it's been uses as both the main plot point and the main sort of trying to get people to spend money on every Marvel mobile/flash/app game in the last 5 years or so. Every single one. The plot starts with 'OMG, what's this weird stuff that makes all the bad guys so tough?' 'It's ISO-8! We need it too! Lets go attack everyone that has some!' Rinse. Repeat.
If they think that'll work with the real Marvel Universe, they have another thing coming. Synergy is one thing, but using marketing tools as plot point is seriously scary.
More importantly...
2) Blue Marvel says no one really know what happened in Secret Wars. (even after the 8 month fast forward). That's super annoying as a plot device, assuming we know, and the in-universe characters don't, but I guess fine until the 'What until you see what happens when 'x' finds out about Secret Wars' event. My concern is HICKMAN DOESN'T KNOW EITHER. What if the delays are because he don't have a friggin ending? He's pretty notorious for lousy endings to big arcs as it is...
I've got a bad feeling about this...

If it doesn't involve Spidey singing "Suspicious Minds," I don't want to know how it ends.

I've got a bad feeling about this... Does anyone ever know how events end, in universe or among creators? Only Psycho Pirate remembers Crisis-that worked. Only Flash and Pandora remember Flashpoint? That was dropped before ever following through. Oh wait the Pheonix Saga didn't end the way Claremont and Byrne originally plotted it, Shooter stepped intot change it but we saw the original ending in Phoenix the Untold Story... Again, it's same as it ever was. The ending of Secret Wars being fluid and characters in universe not remembering is nothing hasn't happened before. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Take a deep breath. And remember, this too shall pass. We will see it again, but that shall pass too. -M

I do find it odd that people expect to have endings in what is essentially the never ending story of shared universe comics -M

I suppose that's true.. but those things were re-boots... this was supposed to not be one(Not that I ever believed that for a second). I don't think it's that hard to tell an ongoing story than has single stories that end.. they used to be able to do that no problem, ina way that both satisfied and left you wanted to read more. It's just sad that most writers today have lost that skill.

I wish he/Marvel would get around to telling us! How long has this series been going for now - 10-12 months? The follow-on series are 2 or 4 issues into their runs and it still isn't anywhere near finished

It's on issue 6 or 7 of 8. It may not seem long to me because I'm not reading any of the Battleworld minis.

Just had issue 7, which was all setup and no payoff. Series finishes next issue which is out in a month/2 months / never, by which time the successor series will be on the 4th or 5th issues. Seriously, what is the point of doing something like this if you're going to completely eviscerate any tension over the ending?
