I read that Jem and the Holograms totally bombed 2 weeks ago and they're pulling it from over 2400 theaters. This movie made just over 2 million total although the makers hoped that it would capture the 80's nostalgia crowd.
Which movies do you remember bombing that surprised you ?

Scott Pilgrim, I really enjoyed that movie (more than the comic even), but it didn't do well at the box office. I think it did better since then on DVD, but still.

Which movies do you remember bombing that surprised you ? any fan of the cartoon (including myself). . Avoided this like the plague. we're GLAD it bombed, and it deserved to. Not only did the Producers/Director lie to fans, what they ended up with is so far from the concept of "Jem" that there WAS no "nostalgia crowd" they didn't "update" the concept to current times.. they kept the crazy makeup, and changed everything else. It was "Jem" in name only. no thank you.

and to answer the question, I was absolutely shocked that "Dredd" bombed.
the film was not only the comic come to life, but it was a fantastic thrill ride (even if borrowing HEAVILY from "the Raid").
but I think too many folks thought it was a reboot of the Stallone, bad, film "Judge Dredd". .and stayed away.
shame, as "Dredd" is quite good.

I was kinda half surprised at how bad John Carter did. I mean, it sure wasn't perfect by far, but far wors things can be said about the GI Joe/F&Furious/Paranormal Activity movies. John Carter was at least not a cynical movie and presented a somewhat unusual mythology in our current days.

Well, to be fair, it almost was a technical release. So the producers and distributors pretty much decided themselves to not give it a chance.

John Carter was at least not a cynical movie and presented a somewhat unusual mythology in our current days. the PROMOTION of that one killed it. the studio seriously failed in understanding what the property was, and the trailers made it look - not only terrible - but a case of, "I've seen that in other films before".. so people avoided it. as a film, I agree with you. . . I've seen worse

I was surprised that the "Prince of Persia" movie did so badly. I really liked the movie and was disappointed that there wouldn't be any sequels.

I liked the Stallone version "hangs head and shuffles feet"Dude! Me Too ! Funny thing too considering I don't like Rob Schneider...I actually didn't mind him too much. It's helped by the fact that Diane Lane is in the movie also...I absolutely LOVE her and she elevates anything she's in. Plus it helps with the fact I hardly read any Judge Dredd books.

A lot of the movies I loved of late didn't do too well, I loved John Carter, Dredd, both Hellboy movies and Crimson Peak.
