What I haven't seen mentioned (though I could easily have missed it) is that WB apparently thought shelving it would give them more money than releasing it. So did it look to them like another Catwoman? I don't think many working on that movie have it on their resume, or would have been sorry if it had been shelved. Possibly the execs thought it looked godawful and was likely a bomb? There was a report of a test screening, with a reference to the film coming off like "An expensive CW pilot", as in that horrid, bargain-basement (with very few exceptions) Arrowverse. If the film was truly on the level of the Arrowverse, that posed some incredibly big problems for a film that was supposed to be part of a franchise / kick off an alternate universe.

I listened to a podcast yesterday that touched on some of these issues: slate.com/podcasts/what-next/2023/12/marvels-failed-bet-on-jonathan-majorsAnd, my last word will be to quote the screenwriter William Goldman on how decisions are made in Hollywood: "Nobody knows anything"

I just got an email from Amazon saying that my Warriors 4K Limited Edition will be delayed a couple of weeks, which made me think of Michael Beck and how his charisma in that movie didn't matter much after Xanadu and Megaforce, which made me think of actors being hurt by bad movies and how a non-release might have been a good thing for them.
I'm also thinking about how movies expected to tank would be released without critic previews and/or on a Saturday instead of Friday and wondering about Batgirl apparently not being even worth that.

Again though, it makes me wonder why they canned Batgirl and let Ezra Miller's The Flash get released. Need I remind the board that this is the same company that thought that 2004's Catwoman was a good idea

I'm also thinking about how movies expected to tank would be released without critic previews and/or on a Saturday instead of Friday and wondering about Batgirl apparently not being even worth that. If there was any merit to be found in the test screening information, then I'd say Batgirl was not worth it. Being compared to notoriously cheap (and creatively bankrupt) CW shows is the last thing a big screen film should be compared to.

This tracks with the things I've heard about changes in leadership. If the project wasn't your idea , you're more likely to cancel it.

Everything I've heard about WB leads me to believe they are more likely successful despite themselves than by any directed effort or innate talent.

Wondering if this is the latest scandal involving a dishonest individual and CGC?....Swaggle's take is here.

This type of corruption was always a possibility. They operate on the honor system.

I’m really considering giving up Marvel Unlimited. I often find the choice of reading material overwhelming.
Its biggest strength is its biggest weakness. Earlier this evening, and this isn’t the first time this has happened, I spent at least 15-20 minutes deciding what to read. Do I continue with Lee/Ditko Spidey? Do I resume the Star Wars comics I have been reading for a while? Hang on, that classic Namor book looks appealing.
I stopped at a friend’s house over Christmas. We joked about how, between us, it took many, many minutes for us to decide what to watch on Netflix. Sometimes, too much choice is overwhelming. But at least with Netflix, it’s (mostly) modern or relatively modern stuff. With something like Marvel Unlimited, you have 85 years of content!
Prior to being a Marvel Unlimited customer, my approach was simple: with the same limited budget that most people have, I made choices and I made them quickly. If I had £20-25 to spend on trades and/or graphic novels one month, I’d choose two or three books I really wanted. It didn’t take me long to decide, and I was rarely disappointed. But even though Marvel Unlimited only costs about £9 a month, there’s a frustration in spending a lot of time deciding what to read. If I added up the time I’ve spent on deciding what to read, it’d probably irk me; as I stated, when you’re buying physical books on a limited budget, you make decisions quickly. I haven’t spent huge amounts of time being indecisive about what to buy in my LCS.
I hope I don’t sound like I have a short attention span, but every time I open up the Marvel Unlimited app, there are all these great, intriguing books, modern and classic, to read, and it just feels like it’s harder to decide what to read.
Anyone been where I am? Would you say dropping Marvel Unlimited and limiting my choices would be good? Paradoxically, it seems unlimited choice is not good, while a limited choice based on one’s budget would be good.

Anyone been where I am? Would you say dropping Marvel Unlimited and limiting my choices would be good? Paradoxically, it seems unlimited choice is not good, while a limited choice based on one’s budget would be good. I just decide what I am in the mod to read before I open up Unlimited. If I don't, then I go through the same paralysis of options if I am browsing. But I am very much a mood reader, so I usually know what I am in the mood for and them open up Unlimited. I have to do the same thing with my trades, streaming services, the DVD/blurays on my shelves, books on my shelves, single issues, etc. If I don't know ahead of time what I want to read, I will likely spend a lot of time browsing options and not decide. But i know the issue is with me, and not the library of options. I also know if I am in the mood for something and I don't have access to it, I get grouchy. I wasn't always this way, but it's how I have evolved over the years, so I adjust my approach to account for it. If I didn't have Unlimited, I would just spend the time browsing my shelves or boxes looking for something that strikes my fancy, and never actually get to reading something. So I just wait until I know what my fancy is, and then go get it and read it. The behavior pattern is on my, not the source, and while the source may enable it, getting rid of it is not going to change my behavior pattern. Only I can do that. -M

Imagine a store stamping the back of a sold comic book as 'PAID' instead of just bagging it....
Poor Jonah, a #1 too, with the Mark Jeweller insert. Indifferent people can be dumb.......

Maybe it's more valuable now. It's one of a kind.
