What is with all of these characters standing around watching Atomic Bomb explosions in early Marvel books? Yeah, it was a good thing that they dropped a bomb on the volcano where the aliens were waiting to invade Earth, but you might wanna avoid that fallout. And now Johnny Storm is living in an apartment lined with asbestos. Just joining the crowd....... There is a whole weird history of nuclear tourism in Nevada. Stan Freberg satirized it on his radio show, with a sketch about competing Las Vegas hotels putting on bigger and bigger extravaganzas.

I saw a cover for the J. Scott Campbell Danger girl series and it occurs to me that the series ended with one of the 3 female protagonists being a traitor. That always struck me as a weakness going forward. They cut the starring cast by a third.
there I said it.

The more I read about him—especially via Shaxper's research—the more convinced I am that Denny O'Neil was truly DC's Stan Lee (Derogatory).

People who lived near the test sites - like, for example, my wife, who grew up in Las Vegas - are known today as "Downwinders". They have some medical issues at much higher rates than the general public. Luckily she has escaped the worst of it so far.

Something that I was thinking about while talking with a co-worker last night: How do you guys feel about Batman 89 basically editing Bruce's origin to where The Joker killed his parents?

I hate it. It should be a random mugger. Having it be the Joker feels like they are trying to say Joker created Batman on purpose, which is next level stupid, in my opinion.
Either that, or Gotham is just so dangerous no sane person would ever live there (it already gives that vibe to be honest, but that makes it worse)

Something that I was thinking about while talking with a co-worker last night: How do you guys feel about Batman 89 basically editing Bruce's origin to where The Joker killed his parents? I like the movie and don't have any real issue with it, or any of the other creative decisions they made. It's not something I would have liked introduced into the comics, but I think it works well for the movie. It's an interesting plot twist, and I don't think it's any worse than any other change that super-hero movies before and after have made to the characters. There are things in the movie that don't make much sense when you think about them too much, but I try not to when I'm watching. There's a scene earlier in the movie where Bruce is going through Jack Napier's police file, but he gets distracted while flipping through the pages. I wonder if there would have been an old mug shot in there showing him the way he looked the night the Waynes were murdered. If he kept reading the file, surely Bruce would have made the connection at that point rather than later when hearing the "Dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight" line. Come to think of it, why doesn't the Joker say this to any of the other people he killed? He does seem to remember killing Bruce's parents, so maybe it was intentional that he repeated it in that scene at Vicki's apartment Actually the part that bothers me more, is that there were two muggers in that scene instead of the usual lone gunman. I assume the other guy wasn't supposed to be Bob the Goon. Maybe the other guy was Joe Chill?

Something that I was thinking about while talking with a co-worker last night: How do you guys feel about Batman 89 basically editing Bruce's origin to where The Joker killed his parents? It's symptomatic of how Burton made Batman into so much of a sociopath that him being at least partially responsible for creating the Joker is not enough to create any emotional stakes so Joker killing Bruce's parents AND going after Bruce's love interest were necessary to have there be anything to their conflict. Joker's big line about dancing with the devil in the pale moonlight is both meaningless in the context of the film and comes out of nowhere - he literally never says it to any of the people he shoots at any point before he says it to Bruce, and suddenly it's his catchphrase going back decades even though there is no evidence he ever said it to anyone other than Bruce Wayne those 2 times. I know Burton's films are a cultural touchstone and they have their merits in the acting, music, and set design, but the writing in those movies is atrocious.
