A used comic book is only worth whatever you are willing to pay for it. There. I said it. Which is a bitter reality with me filling some cosmic Marvel holes in my collection thanks to Marvel’s movies. Though on the flip side from what I do own my collection has never been worth more than now. But then again unless I’m in real dire finance I don’t plan on selling them. Alas I shall never own you Marvel Preview #7. And I don’t even want it for what it’s price is jacked up for.

I had a similar light box which my parents bought for me that had a mirror and lens inside it so the image was projected out onto a wall. Truly helped me as I got older and more into drawing with the added convenience of saving my comics from all the repeated pencil/pen tears that may have occurred over time.

Things got a lot easier for me when I realized I want to read comics, I don't necessarily want to own comics. Library copy, ratty back issue, reprint, kindle--all the same to me.

THere's quite a large section of my collection that I have little interest in reading, but I love the art. So it's just to look at (lots of 50/60/70ies mainstream books). There's also lots of books I want to own now, because I suspect I won't be able to afford them tomorrow, despite the fact I currently don't have time to read them straight away. I've always loved book collections and libraries. I love to look at books, find a system in the organisation of shelves. book and record shelves are the best kind of decoration for me. If I get to read the books, that's a bonus, but I'm already happy being surrounded by those.

Same here, I have the budget at the moment which allows me buying books and comics and DVD's so I make certain to search out those "special" things NOW rather than waiting. You never can tell what tomorrow will bring and books/comics/music/DVD's are all things that I can enjoy LATER if I have them rather than lamenting never finding them when I had the opportunity and cash flow.

Ive been accumulating using this excuse for years, and now have enough content to live to be 157. If I retire today. And someone else pays my bills.

I love the adventure of diving into the unmarked $1 long boxes of used old comic books at the LCS. Going from front to back an issue at a time while having no idea of what exciting comic or great memory you will find as you dig in search of buried treasures! It's like being an archaeologist peeling back the layers of time and exploring the past. There. I said it.

It's like being an archaeologist peeling back the layers of time and exploring the past. (...). Yep, I love doing that when the opportunity arises. I also love coming across a box or pile of comics in used bookstores, antique stores or flea markets. By the same token, I just love coming across old used books at any of those types of places. What you said about feeling like an archeologist is apt, because even if I don't end up finding/buying anything, I derive so much pleasure from browsing through them.

I did find our local library for reading a lot of things I didn't think I necessarily would want to buy. Like I read all of Sandman for free a few years ago. But yeah I still have some of the collectors mentality from starting with comics in the 90's. But in the past 5-6 years the little I do buy is either cheap single issues or TPBs.

Wolverine having bone claws is completely sub-moronic. Did the genius(es) who came up with that idea even read UXM #142?

Wow, I had forgotten that this story about killer robots being chased into the past to prevent a dystopian robot-controlled future even uses the word "Terminate" prominently to describe their behavior. Anybody think Jame Cameron and Bill Wisher didn't read this 1981 comic book when they were writing drafts of their film in 1981?

Both Cameron and Claremont were cribbing from Harlan Ellison's "Soldier."
Cei-U! I summon the source! (Does that make me Highfather?)
