Seen review for the 1st issue of DC's Heroes in Crisis #1. The big hype (SPOILERS).......................... being that Wally West (Kid Flash/Flash) and Roy Harper (Speedy/Arsenal) are killed. While I haven't read (nor do i intend to read) this, so I have no idea how this story idea will play out or end it just seems to me that it smacks of shock value and feels like it shows contempt to the fans who adored these 2 characters. That is my initial thought just on hearing about this. Enough with the death and angst already and let's have heroic ideals and good triumphing over evil! I don't need or want to read a book focused on heroes with PTSD. To many Wally West became the Flash or is destined to become the heir to the Flash role. Roy Harper overcame his drug addiction to be a better person and concept as a hero who is stronger than his personal demons. Now both are killed, and yes I know nobody is ever truly dead in comic books but I feel like there is no longer a strong editorship in DC or Marvel that should be guiding writers of today. A good editor might say to them... HEY that is a great idea but we don't really want to destroy beloved heroes (or characters) just for the sake of an idea. How can we turn this idea around and still make a story that won't piss off or push away our readers and encourage readers to WANT to read more about them? There I said it! Oooh! DC is so edgy...not. This was edgy in the 70s...perhaps the 80s, but beyond those decades, its become a tiresome, unimaginative gimmick.

Tiresome, unimaginative gimmicks are what modern DC/Marvel are all about.

I look at Marvels about 3-4 times a year just for the art of Alex Ross alone. You ever read Ruins? It’s a two part series that’s the polar opposite of Marvels. It’s basically if every origins story in Marvel went bad. I dunno if I’d recommend it. But it was certainly an experience to read. It wasn’t Alex Ross but I can’t remember who the artist was.

I prefer Kingdom Come over Marvels . There's just so many Easter eggs in the series and a feast for the eyes.

No, I haven't ... but, I forgotten all about it and never ever gotten around to it. Maybe worth checking out and I'll be heading to my LCS tomorrow and see if they have a reasonable price for it.

I found the West Coast Avengers comic to be more entertaining than the actual Avengers comic (well, save for the Masters of Evil storyline) at the time. Revisiting them, my opinion still holds.

More story and ideas and concepts with Ross doing some very inventive re-designing of costumes. Marvels is great for being the 1st Ross we ever see and providing a stunning and unique artistic styling of the early MU. But beyond that visualization it just seems to note and highlight happenings at a rapid pace in the MU without a compelling story. But it sure is purty as they say...

Unless you picked up Terminator: Burning Earth, from Now; or, like me, read Miracleman: Apocrypha.

adamwarlock2099, my LCS has a copy of the two-part Ruins and they're mailing it out to me today and I should get it by Wednesday at the latest and go from there and I'll let you and the rest of the CCF World of my views on it.

Biarbara Gordon as written by Gail Simone in the Nu52 is 'too stupid to live.' It was a plot point that overexerting herself could undo the miracle surgery that allowed her to walk again, and she decided to go jumping off rooftops and getting into fistfights anyway. If ever there was a character who should have never been a superhero, it's that version of Barbara Gordon. Yeah, but that Barbara Gordon was supposed to be empowering...

My problem with the Barbara Gordon that is Batgirl and a member of the BOP is that you have females in the group that duplicate each others abilities. Batgirl Huntress and Black Canary are all good fighters, you could change their names and have the same heroes.
There I said it.

I pulled my issues out and plan to read them this weekend. I’ll post my thoughts too once you have so I don’t spoil anything. I don’t think I’ve rad it since I bought it so it’ll all be pretty fresh.
