I've been reading comics since the mid 1970s and I've never liked Gene Colan's art. Still don't. It kinda bugs me - as a kid in the late 70's I hated Kirby, Ditko, Trimpe, Frank Robbins and other old school artists while loving stuff like Byrne, Perez, Gulacy and other "clean" artists. Over time I've grown to appreciate most of the artists I disliked as a kid, and some I've grown to love. My idea of good art has broadened But Colon is is still an eyesore to me. I know he's well loved and his fans write some inspiring words of appreciation, but every Colon comic I read I find myself flipping though quickly since his art is so, I dunno, floppy? rounded shadows? an out of focus fish eye lens? Kinda indistinct to the point I have to stare at it it too long? I can see he has talent, but it's not pleasing to me. It really bugs me that I find no enjoyment in his art. Try harder Maybe his Dracula work, which was all about mood and shadows is what you don't like. Have you read his Daredevil and Captain America work?
And his Dr. Strange re-invented the comic page.

I guess that means it’s not targeted for an old geezer like me. I think there's more to it than that. I share your dislike for Spider-Gwen, not to mention all those obnoxious Deadpool variants. Of course there should be new teen characters aimed at younger readers, but what Marvel has been doing with their supporting characters over the last decade or so is just ridiculous. What's going on is that creators aren't creating new characters for Marvel any longer (And who could blame them?) because there is no incentive to do so. Most current Marvel and DC titles come off as really well produced, but conceptually bad, fanfic to me.

It's quite okay if some don't fancy Spider-Gwen. Quite a number of her readers show little, or no interest in books like these. I myself have never read, nor particularly care to read, any of the books piled in the second row. That's the neat thing about comics, many different tastes.
Ahhh. That’s the good stuff.

I've read many issues of his Dracula and while I own pretty much every other 70's Marvel monster book, Colan art makes the series unreadable to me. Sorry. And I actually prefer Bob Browns DD. I know, it's weird. I am a huge Dr Strange fan, don't like his stuff. I guess Howard The Duck is an exception (I have copies of all the 70's Howard), but I still prefer Brunners issues, or as art is concerned even the weird Michael Golden magazine stories. So it goes.

You probably don't like chocolate either.

Is there anyone in this forum that is a fan of Spider-Gwen ? I read , or tried to read, the first 2 issues on MU and I couldn't finish it. Her personality is a copy of the Batgirl that is currently walking around the DC Universe these days. Yuck, I said it. I remember reading her first appearance in the Spider-Verse series and I thought she was lame-o in the extreme. The fact that she's gone in to be such a popular character just blows my mind. I mean, this is Gwen Stacy...albeit Gwen Stacy from another dimension, who got bitten by a radioactive spider instead of Peter Parker. I mean, really? That's Marvel's new, hot young character?! It's enough to make you wonder if you're on the right planet.

Not that there wasn’t an aspect of fanfiction in there as early as the 70s, or course... but the trend has become very noticeable of late. It’s almost like self-parody.

Serial fiction of the type that you see in shared-universe superhero funnybooks is pretty much the textbook definition of fan-fiction.

It was just a generic teenager hip girl who has polished powers without training. Ugh.

One could almost be led to believe the writer(s) have no more than a passing familiarity with the actual character.

One could almost be led to believe that the character wasn't aimed at jaded old nerds but toward a different audience.

What I do know is that my four year old niece loves playing with the Ghost Spider figure I bought her, as well as the Tsum Tsum I got her as well. And she watches the Marvel Rising shorts with me on YouTube.
