Can't think of a more trippy Marvel cover. Maybe Iron Man went looking in that bottle again. There, I said it.

Um...how do you have a 100th Anniversary for a book that is only 50 years old?
Someone buy Marvel a dictionary and underline the definition of "anniversary."
There, I said it!

In that book, they're the Avengers of 2061.

Marvel did a series of 100th Anniversary Specials, essentially future takes on the properties, much like The End series of mini-series were future takes on the properties but not really "the end"of the series of characters. -M

A variant cover is now done by everyone and their dog.
Too many opportunists think their limited print runs and better-than-average cover means even a mediocre book can sell for $15-$40
They then sell for about $5 each in mystery boxes sold at That Spider-Man Booth or on Ebay.
I'm not against variants but don't charge stupid prices for them.
There, I said it.

Well put; I was never fond of the monthlies' variant covers as I knew it was just a publisher bait job, and I was not going to be that fish. I can appreciate collections where alternate, unpublished covers appear in a gallery, but as a marketing tool--pass.

When I was a kid, I found the first version of the Azrael Batsuit cool. As an adult, I still find it cool. That thigh belt can die in a fire, though.

Two things - 1. from what @mrp says , those covers create a serious sales bump for comics 2. When I still bought new comics from a LCS, they gave me a blank Savage Dragon cover and I refused it.

Overall, I like it too (I happen to be in the middle of reading Knightfall/Quest/End right now). For the brief time when JPV just had the armored gauntlets and rest was a normal bat-suit, though, it looked absurd.

I like some variants, like this Superman Batman #1 from the 2003 series. Only 500 copies were made for dealers who attended the Diamond summit. It's genuinely scarce and is currently listed for $120 in NM (so right place, right time, yours truly nipped one for closer to $20 and have turned down over a dozen requests to sell it)....

To me, Basbeball card scarcity antics have no place in comic books and don't you have to buy some ridiculous number of copies just to get one of them anyway?

Sometimes as low as 10 regular copies, or 25,50,100 etc.
Or a store can order 2800-3000 copies of a book and have an exclusive cover done. But these stores then try to sell the $3.95 cover books for $15-$29.95
